Guest guest
I am finally able to get the iron IV (venofer) which is scheduled for this Thursday (yay!). (Although I am a bit nervous about it.) My ferritin was 15 (in 2008) and 25 on (Dec 1, 2009) Just had another test done Jan 27 and it is now 32. Doesn't sound like a huge jump but I had a two week heavy period during that time and even though I am now supplementing heavily with the Blue Bonnet iron I was worried it might be down on this recent test! Anyway, I just wanted to confirm that it is okay to just try starting increasing the cytomel (as per Nick's great info at the website as far as how much and when) right after the IV? I don't have to wait 5 days and get another ferritin test? I thought I read in another post but now I can't find it that someone else was starting the day after the IV. But I wasn't sure what her starting ferritin was and wondered if this sounds like an okay plan for me? I am on 30mg HC (10,10,5,5) and switched to 6.25 (x2 doses) of Cytomel from Efra about a month ago. (RT3 ratio is 11.3) Thanks for any help you can provide
Guest guest
I htink you can increase SOME but not a huge amount until you get labs to see how much it raised oyur levels. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/
Guest guest
My experience with Venofer (Iron) IV's: I've had dozens and they have all been easy with no problems. The iron always helps me. They dilute the Venofer into a bigger bag of IV fluid, hook me up and I doze off as it drips in over 1/2 hour or so. That's it! (I can not absorb oral iron and have continuing gastrointestinal iron losses, so it is an unending battle to keep my ferritin up.) By far the worst part of Venofer IV's is the cost! > > I am finally able to get the iron IV (venofer) which is scheduled for this Thursday (yay!). Guest guest
Thanks so much for posting that. It is so helpful and reassuring to hear someone's experience first hand. I have searched for as much info as I can and of course you always come across someone's bad experience and that sticks in your head. Even though I read more that were positive!! Thanks again. Hope your ferritin level is good for you now. Thanks again. > > > > I am finally able to get the iron IV (venofer) which is scheduled for this Thursday (yay!). Guest guest
I too, have had great success with IV iron. I agree the cost is the only downfall, once I met my insurance deductible, it was considered an inpatient treatement and was covered 60%. I had no bad side effects at all, I did make sure I had a full tummy per my doctors advice. I raised ferritin from 8, to 96 after 6 treatments weekly. Unfortunately, my ferritin went down after a few months due to very heavy periods - I have since had a hysterectomy so we'll see. My doctor said I might need to come in four times a year to get IV. Guest guest
Those rotten heavy periods! When you first started the IVs did you get a ferritin test after each IV to know how many to get? Or is it known approximately how much one IV raises ferritin in most people? Thanks for the tip about the full tummy. I will be sure to do that too. How many IVs before you tried raising your T3 medication or did you wait until after the 6th treatment? Thanks for your help > > > > > > I am finally able to get the iron IV (venofer) which is scheduled for this Thursday (yay!). Guest guest
Can someone tell me what the cost is for Iron IV, because my iron is Ferritin 5 LOW 10-291 ng/mL. Thx,
Guest guest
I pay $145 (total) per Venofer IV. I buy my Venofer vial at Costco pharmacy for about $75; then the Dr. at IV center charges $70 to administer it. Some doctors charge a great deal more than others for the administration. > > Can someone tell me what the cost is for Iron IV, because my iron is Ferritin 5 LOW 10-291 ng/mL. > > Thx, >
