Guest guest
I am confused... (Sorry in advanced it TMI) I started taking Betaine HCI w/pepsin this past Sunday. I wanted to give it a try as I have been taking another digestive enzyme but wondered if it was 'strong' enough... This week I also started adding more T3. I am taking one capsule with each meal. I feel nothing. Since I have started taking it, I am constipated... I don't understand.. Wouldn't it have a different effect? Am I not using it 'correctly'?? I didn't have a 'problem' before... I am gaseous and feel bloated a few hours later but that is it.. Thanks!
Guest guest
When I began Betaine HCl, my naturopath had me take 1 capsuel with the first meal, 2 with the next meal, 3 with the next meal, 4 with the next, and so on, until I started feeling warmth or slight pain in the stomach region -- that's the sign I was taking too much, so I then backed off. I ended up taking 5 capsules with every meal. That's been months ago, and now I take 3 capsules with lower fat meals and 5 with higher fat meals. If anything, it's helped my constipation issues. I get a huge bottle now, since I go through it fairly rapidly, and I expect as my thyroid/adrenal issues are resolved, that I will need less and less. IF you try this, make sure you drink water, and if you get to the pain stage, drink lots of water and eat some more to get rid of the burning feeling. Good luck, Jeanne > > I am confused... Guest guest
I'm really curious: What is the reason for taking all that betaine HCL? I was under impression is was suggested for people with poor productin of natural stomach HCL acid - I use it for that. My bottle says, take no more than two 250 mg tabs per day. Is it for constipation? Thx, Lee
Guest guest
I can only speak to what my naturopath told me. I have low production of natural stomach HCl (most likely connected to being hypo for years), and this gradual increasing of dosage is the way she had me find the correct amount that I need. I have found bottle recommendations can be conservative (to protect themselves from a lawsuit, perhaps?) and that may indeed be enough for some people. This amount is what works for me. > > I'm really curious: What is the reason for taking all that betaine HCL? Guest guest
Thx, you answered the question. As I understand it, low stomach HCL leads to reduced stomach emptying effectiveness and thus reduced distribution of food and medicine. Betaine HCL should help that.
