Guest guest
, What you said is very true, I recently read a magazine article about problems with drug and herb interactions and surgery complications. It's important to let your doctor know every herb you're taking, even if he thinks you're nuts for taking them, just to be sure you don't end up with any bad interactions. For example, St. 's Wort should not be taken together with anti-depressant meds and it can intensify the effects of anesthetics and narcotics. I've heard of people taking Valium and trying some Kava Kava as well and ending up in emergency practically relaxed to death. Feverfew also interferes with clotting, like ginkgo. And ginseng, which many of us take, has been associated with high blood pressure and accelerated heart rate during surgery. This article recommended stopping the use of all herbals for 2 to 3 weeks prior to surgery or at least checking with the surgeon and anesthesiologist about whether what you are taking is compatible with safe surgery. a Peden Ken and wrote: > > From: " Ken and " <kglg@...> > > I thought I should post this to the group since some of you are facing > surgeries in the near future and because I don't think this fact is well > known.
