Guest guest
Pam, First of all, bless you!! Have you checked his ketosis before dinner when he's seizing? Maybe he is burning too many calories during the day, and needs more at lunch or needs an afternoon snack. Is it possible he's out of the home in the afternoon and is cheating? Are you using sunscreen on him in the afternoon, or brushing his teeth with a non-keto toothpaste in the late morning or afternoon? I bet if the Atkins works the rest of the day, it's something with the diet you just haven't figured out yet. Our dietician isn't really very passionate about the diet, and thus only mediochre. There have been many questions she couldn't answer, and that was that. No " I'll find out the answer for you. " I find the best resource to be the parents on this website; much better than the dietician. Hang in there! Everyone has the same theme: that he burns up too many calories thus to check his ketones during sz activity times. He is *very* active in the afternoon.I am confused though. Am I supposed to strive for small, medium or large ketones? He usually has medium ketones in the morning and large to very large ketones in the afternoons and evenings which I thought was desirable. Whenever i check ketones during sz activity they are usually quite large (perhaps too large?) I know he is not cheating on his diet as we are home together 24/7. His toothpaste is one of the approved Tom's of Maine, ditto with the sunscreen. If I need to lower 's ketones would it be better add another carb per meal (currently he gets 10 carbs per day, 3 per meal) or to add another meal, iyo? thanks for your expertise! Guest guest
Hi there, I know I don't post much, but this happens to be something that I have had experience with. We had to play around with the meals/times ect. In the end we have ended up with 5 meals a day. Now it's all even amount of calories, but at one point we had the 3 meals even then actually 3 smaller snacks between meals and at bed time. I found that with my " nonposterboy epileptic " that he worked differently and had a high energy level. Now almost 3 years into it we are a little more relaxed and I listen to his body on when to move ratios and when to add extra calories. I always keep on hand macadamia nuts which typically run a 3.5:1 ratio in themselves. So since he is lower then that it's ok to have a small amount higher. Try giving maybe a 100kcal snack 1-2 hrs before dinner and see if that might help good luck. Remember listen to your childs needs through constant observance. Ketones should be at 80. Double check with Dietician, but the morning means one thing and the evening another. One is the calorie count and the other is the ratio and that will help on adjustments as well. Also having some extra liquid in the afternoon will keep the ketones for going to 160. I was thinking that those of you in the States might still be able to access it at some of the stores. It is called' keto kooler drink mix(grape)(sweetened with stevia).......I have tried the cherry kool aid since my sister in law sent it from the states.....and sweetened it with stevia...but Rebekah hates it...... Guest guest
I'm on my 3rd day of phase 1. I feel like I'm eating enough but today I felt very weak. My stomach seems to be hungry all the time. I'm not going by the menu in the book just the " foods to enjoy, foods to avoid " list. I'm going on a 7 mi. hike tomorrow and I'm not sure I'll make it....energy wise. I exercise regularly and have for some time, so fit won't be the problem. I'm already tired of the food list for phase 1...HELP! ANY helpful advice would be great! Thanks! Pam
Guest guest
I think I'd put off your hike tomorrow til you are off phase one. You are going through withdrawals from sugar and bad carbs. The symptoms last for a couple of days. Your energy might not come back til you start adding food back in. If you are hungry, eat! To help the withdrawals, make sure you eat all your meals AND all your snacks, drink a lot of water (to flush all the bad from your system quicker), get plenty of rest, take a pain killer if needed (I got horrible headaches during detox from sugar). It is VERY common to feel the way you do. Just goes to show how bad those things are for you. Once the withdrawals go away, you will feel great. Carol help! I'm on my 3rd day of phase 1. Guest guest
I hiked on Phase 1 and didn't have any problems. I just ate a lot of nuts with just some M & M's in it. It kept my energy up and didn't make me gain weight. I know it is cheating, but it helps a little. I also had dried strawberries & blueberries in my trail mix. Guest guest
Pam, Take some cheese sticks, nuts, maybe even some hard boiled eggs. One of my favorite things to take when I'm hiking are almonds. As far as feeling hungry... you should eat as much as you need so as not to feel hungry, even if that means eating more snacks. Hope this helps! Paola --- and Pam wrote: > I'm on my 3rd day of phase 1. I feel like I'm eating enough but > today I felt very weak.
