Guest guest
Tomorrow will be 3 weeks of being on T3 only (Cytomel brand name) and I am up to 25 mcg per day. I know I need to get my ferritin checked and plan to do that in the next week. I was going to do it this past week, but realized that it was probably not a good idea to do that the first few days of my period as that would likely skew results. Today is day #4 of my period. I am in pretty good physical shape -- I run 5-6 miles 6 days per week. My resting pulse rate is normally pretty low 60s to low 70s. 80s is very high for me. Last night my heart rate went up to 90s late evening and bedtime and my temps were also up to 98.6. I skipped bedtime dose of T3. Have taken two doses of T3 today and it is time for dose number 3 (1:00 in the afternoon). I just took my temp and resting pulse -- bpm was 84 and temp was 99.1. Because of this, I am reluctant to take dose right now and think I'll wait until things come down a bit. What should I do about taking the next dose? I have been dosing: 6:30an- 5mcg (Cytomel), 10:00am - 5mcg, 1:00pm - 5mcg, 4:00pm - 5 mcg, bedtime - 5 mcg. I am not sick and it is day #4 of period so I don't think that explains things. I do have 1-2 glasses of red wine on Friday and Saturday nights usually. Could that have been culprit last night? Would that still be affecting today? When I look at RT3 website, it talks about increased pulse rate AND temp as a sign of too much T3 -- could this be true for me at such a low dose at 3 weeks? I know some of my questions are repetitive and ferritin level will help with the puzzle, but since temps were increased with heart rate instead of decreased, this seems to be not to be a ferritin or adrenal issue -- isn't that right? Any advice is helpful. Thanks, Beth
Guest guest
>Any advice is helpful. It might be that that is enough T3 for you for now. Individual temperatures over 98.6 are OK, the real marker is the average of temperatures taken at 3 hourly intervals starting 3 hours after you wake. Some typical " during the day " temperatures are shown here http://thyroid-rt3.com/temperat.htm How are you feeling, hopefully reasonably non-hypo?? As your T4 levels sink you will need an increase again, maybe not yet though Nick
Guest guest
Nick, That is really helpful b/c I feel really good other than the increased heart rate thing. My energy is good, I am sleeping like a champ, my mood is good (which is saying something given that I have been snowed in with my kids all week I even think my hair loss has decreased and my skin is less dry and even though it is cold weather, I am not cold to the bone like usual. My metabolism is reasonable. Having more normal temperatures is great for me given my temp in my doc's office before starting T3 only was 96.5. All this is why I wondered if perhaps a lower dose of T3 only is what I need right now instead of increasing b/c I think I am "supposed" to be at a certain dosage at this stage of the game. Glad to hear this may be the case. I'll keep it lower until temps drop and I'll get my bloodwork done this week. As always, thanks for your advice and the enormous amount of time you and Val devote to all of us with so many questions. It is so reassuring to have both of you to turn to when things aren't making sense.
