Guest guest
Hi, has anyone here had the BPD/DS with medicaid or medicare and an out-of-state surgeon? It looks like I'll be getting medicaid soon and would like to have the BPD/DS. But there are no in-state surgeons who can do it and medicaid says using an out-of-state surgeon requires special permission. There is a surgeon in-state who does the distal RNY and I'm afraid I'm going to have to have that instead. I was wondering if anyone had any experience dealing with this sort of situation. Thanks in advance for any info. - -- Rousey
Guest guest
, the information that I have from my surgeon says that you have to get the procedure in the state you receive your checks and reside. :-( Something to do about some kind of " number " that the surgeon has to apply for when he starts accepting medicaid/care. Very sorry. I hope that my information is wrong. BTW, very nice web site :-) Medicaid/Medicare out of state? > Hi, has anyone here had the BPD/DS with medicaid or medicare and an > out-of-state surgeon? Guest guest
> Rousey, I am sorry I can't answer that question. Why don't you call Walter at Obesity Law. He may have come across this situation before. Sometimes it is better to go with what is available. If you have the distal RNY, you can always have a revision to the DS later when you have the money. I have seen your website, your a smart guy, you could make a living doing websites for us computer dummies LOL. I did post at your message board yesterday. I won my fight with my insurance company and will be traveling to Ohio from New Mexico to have a consult with Dr. Hess on Monday. If a RNY was all I could get after all was said and done, I would have done it. Your right that the BPD/DS is the better surgery for us super MO's. What if the surgeon who will be doing the RNY recommends you for the DS. You may have a fighting chance. Good luck to you Teri

A revision from the RNY is tricky because the stomach has been divided. One part has the esophagus going into it.. where the food goes down.. and the other half has the pylorus attached and is the non functioning part of the stomach. If a surgery is not available within one state, I'd imagine that they've sent people elsewhere for surgery many times. in Seattle
