Guest guest
Hi Beth The ratio and the reverse t3 are the first things to get better. Just because our ratio gets better does not mean the t3 gets to our cells. You have been on t3 for only 6 weeks it takes around 12 weeks for the breakthrough. Your t3 level is still very low. Did you stop the ferritin for 5 days before the test? Have you had your adrenals tested? Sky To: RT3 Group <RT3_T3 >Sent: Wed, 17 February, 2010 6:45:39 AMSubject: Help with latest labs Nick and Val, I just got my latest lab results and am not sure how to proceed. I think the news is good and will explain the heart problems I keep having. I have been on T3 only for 6 weeks and you may remember I am the one who kept saying I couldn't tolerate more than about 20 - 25 mcg Cytomel without increased heart that was causing tightness. Val wanted me to check my Ferritin as well. Here are my results: Ferritin - 70 Free T4 -- still pending T4 Total - 3.8 ( 4.5 - 12.5) Free T3 - 238 (23-420) Reverse T3 - 11 (11-32) TSH - 1.55 This gives me a ratio of 21.64 -- isn't that correct? Last time I had my blood checked my ratio was 10.3. My Ferritin looks good, too. So, what does all this mean and what should I do now? I continue to have heart issues and am wondering if should go back to a T3/T4 combo at this point? I didn't have as much trouble with my heart on Armour. Please let me know your thougths. Thanks, Beth
Guest guest
Sky, Thanks so much for your response. I am actually not on any medication for the ferritin level -- that is what my level is without medication. I haven't had my adrenals tested, but I don't have symptoms to suggest adrenal fatigue -- I don't think. My energy is good, I am sleeping like a baby, hair loss has decreased, and my metabolism is slowing improving. The only negative side effect I have right now is the heart stuff with occasional very rapid beats in the evenings and occasional increased blood pressure. My temps do still fluctuate some, but I have had more 98.2-98.6 readings in the past couple of weeks than ever before. I am finding that some days I can only handle 15 mcg of T3 only because my hearrt rate is too high or my heart flutters too much. Should I jusst keep going like I am taking 15 -20 mcg per day until 11 weeks. Is this enough to get my Free T3 levels up? Thanks for any guidance you can give me. Guest guest
Hi Beth, Your Free T3 is still pretty low, so you need to get that up to the top of the range. Did you stop supplementing with iron 5 days prior to the ferritin test? Your TSH should be suppressed below 1 from what I remember Nick and Val saying. I would venture to guess that the heart feeling tight is that you aren't getting enough T3 and increasing it too slowly. I am sure Nick will answer you tomorrow or Val when she is feeling better. Nick and Val, I just got my latest lab results and am not sure how to proceed. I think the news is good and will explain the heart problems I keep having. Guest guest
Beth, That could be adrenal. Also your temps while they aren't bad, they aren't suppose to fluctuate more then .2 and yours are .4, so that would suggest there is an adrenal issue. I would get a saliva test done if you can to rule that out. That could be why you can't tolerate the T3. I know when I tried it a few months ago, before I knew about saliva testing, my heart went crazy on it. So I am starting the HC and then will add in T3 when my temps are more stable. Have you tried sea salt in your water? That has helped me with rapid heartbeats and my BP. 15-20 mcg seems pretty low when most people are on over 100 when their FT3 clears, from all that I have read on here. I would definitely do a saliva test to check your adrenals before increasing the T3. GOOD LUCK! Guest guest
Thanks for the input - I just checked the STTM website about symptoms of adrenal fatigue. I don't have the symptoms -- in fact have quite the opposite on several of them. Not to be a miser, but I looked at the cost of the saliva test and $171 is a lot of money -- particularly if I don't have the classic symptoms. I am curious what Nick's take is on my situation? Guest guest
Beth here is the link to Canary Club. Their prices are much cheaper and they use ZRT labs for the evaluation. I think they have a $99 test that tests are four cortisol levels for the day. You might look into the site and see. http://www.canaryclub.org/home-test-kits/adrenal-a-reproductive.html Subject: Re: Help with latest labsTo: RT3_T3 Date: Wednesday, February 17, 2010, 7:48 AM Thanks for the input - I just checked the STTM website about symptoms of adrenal fatigue. RT3 has gone down in the blood but takes a lot longet to go down in the cell receptors and clear resistance You say you are feeling better, well there is more improvement to come if you stick it out and take as much T3 as your body lets you The heart symptoms should ease, it may be adrenal though and a saliva test would prove it if you can afford it. Guest guest
Nick, Thanks for your response. Sorry I bothered you with the resend this morning -- somehow I missed this one. So, it sounds like you wouldn't be too concerned that @ 20 mcg is all I can handle for now and to increase as much as I can tolerate. (I did notice that 45 minutes ago, my heart had started pounding hard and my pulse went up at dosing time. I went ahead and took a 5mcg dose and the pounding has subsided and pulse has slightly decreased which would speak to your idea that I am not getting quite enough). I'll keep at it. I really appreciate your advice and your time.
