Hi everyone,

Nothing much to share today in the way of positive reinforcement... I had

my shoulder replacement on Monday morning and right now I hate everything.

My surgeon came by to see me in recovery and I asked what the criteria were

for going home; after hip replacements they want you to be able to walk

unassisted with a cane, and climb steps, before they'll discharge you. I

was told that the only reason shoulder patients are kept hospitalized is

that you're supposed to be on a morphine drip with that cool self-medicate

button for a few days until you can handle the pain well enough to just use

oral painkillers. Ha! Screw that. I tossed my button overboard and never

pushed it again, and I got to come home Tuesday afternoon about 32 hours

after surgery. I'm feeling MUCH better now that I'm on my own couch without

any tubes sticking out of unpleasant places, but let me tell you, I'm really

understanding why they recommend three days of morphine.

I like morphine. I miss morphine. And it's a bitch to type with my arm in

a sling. I have to keep reminding myself... Jenni, you're safe at home...

they let you eat whatever you want here, no liquid diet for your poor

delicate stomach (I had pizza this morning with pineapple and pepperoni)...

you get more than three channels... and you're not trapped one bed over from

a woman who can't sleep and wants to tell you all about her daughter at 5 in

the morning.

I miss morphine.

Hey Jenni:

Hang in there - it'll only get better. In the meantime, pizza for breakfast sounds like a fine way to treat yourself when you are wishing for something stronger like a triplicate type drug. Unfortunately morphine did nothing for me but put me to sleep. But my husband fondly remembers having it in the ER when he was in intense pain. Maybe vicodin might do the trick for you?

p.s. rent some funny movies.

Bless your heart Jenni, you are having a rought time of it aren't you?

The next time I go to the Dr., we may have to talk about a knee replacement.

I don't know a lot about that but a friend of mine had one then had to go

to Arlington for two weeks for physical therapy. He couldn't come home all

that time...............Joyce M

When I had surgery on my leg, they gave me vicoden and I was doing fine. Then

the Dr. said he thought I would be more comfortable with morphine. BIG mistake.

It made me sick as a dog. Heaved my heels up. Give me vicoden any day.
