Cytomel or Isocort, problem sleeping

I started Cytomel 7 weeks ago at 25mcg, working up to 87.5mcg. Felt worse and worse. Did my own saliva cortisol. Then my Doc said I DID NOT have adrenal fatigue but some of the moderators told me I needed Isocort based on the labs. He had also said I could take the T3 all in the morning - I did not have to break it up like STTM recommended. I dropped my T3 down to 50 mcg last Wed & took it in 4 doses instead of 1. I started Isocort (5-4-3-1) 2 days ago (Sat) and couldn't sleep. I felt wired (Sat night). I wasn't too tired yesterday but cut the Isocort back to 5-4-2 and did not take a bedtime dose of T3 or the Isocort. Still couldn't sleep well. From about 1:00am to 3:30 or 4:00 I was yawning but wired. Finally slept for a couple of hours.I was not allowed to post on the adrenal site, so, sorry if I'm not posting right, but maybe you can help? Thanks, Janie H

T3 has a short active life in your system, maybe 2-4 hours and you need as near

a steady stream of it available as you can achieve. Dividing it into multiple

doses helps do that. For example, I'm currently at 50 mcg/day and I've

discovered by trial and error that I need to take it about every two and a half

hours to keep it steady. Are you taking ISOCORT to supplement low cortisol

output? If so, you want a peak at about 8AM gradually tapering during the day

with short bursts at meal/snack times. Me: 1 tab at 645 AM, 1/2 at 9 AM, 1/2

with lunch, 1/2 at about 10 PM when I hit evening slump. Sounds like the amount

your taking is interfering with sleep. You might try starting low and working up

gradually.

Janie,

I'm starting my 11th week, and am up to 100-150 mcg T3 daily (some days I can't

handle the 150), but really needed Isocort once I got to a certain point, as in

10-10-7.5-5-2.5. Once I got it up to this amount, I have felt much better, and

have no need to look at a clock to know I'm needing my next dose of HC-- I get

this antsy feeling inside and I check the time, and sure enough, I take it and

feel better. Once the RT3 is all cleared, I trust I will wean myself off

carefully.

I don't know a whole lot more than I DO know about all this, but I think that

during the twelve weeks, especially if ferritin and temps aren't already steady,

then for sure you will have times of feeling hypo AND as RT3 is still in the

system, you will feel it.

Val may be on her week break and Nick is on a trip and not as available as much

this week, but hopefully someone with more experience and knowledge will reply

soon.

In the meantime, hang in there,

Jeanne

Seems a reasonable dose

I suspect they know better than your Dr.

>e had also said I could take the T3 all in the morning -

Don't try it with weak adrenals

The " getting started " stage

Once you get things reasonably right then you should feel a lot

better.

You may need to cut T3 right down and build up again when starting the

isocort as you can end up with pooled T3 being released

Thank you!

I slept last night after cutting the Cytomel back to 25 mcg for the day yesterday and cutting back the Isocort to 6. I'll try that again today then start titrating up again.

I keep reading and re-reading all your great information.

Thanks again,

Janie H
