Guest guest
I found the Keto file recipes the only help for recipes I feel the cookbook was not Kid-Friendly for my daughter The recipes here are tried and true Cannot answer the other questions, but sure someone else can I do know, coconut oil is highly recommended over canola or flaxseed for the KGD Sandi Mom to Zara
Guest guest
I've never tried the cheese snacks..... they must be a pre-made product that you bought somewhere? I think cellulose is okay..... it's just pretty much indigestible fiber.... they probably use it to keep them from sticking together. Go by the protein, fat and carb numbers on the package in order to plan them into a meal. Coconut oil is a healthy saturated fat. It's very stable...... does not break down from heat exposure like many other oils do...... does not go rancid. You can keep it at room temp in the pantry for a long time. It's solid at room temperature.... kind of like butter. Don't store it in the fridge or it will be hard as a ROCK! It has almost no taste...... if you buy the refined type. Spectrum makes one that is not refined...... and one that is (available at lots of health food stores or online). The unrefined one says " full flavor " or something like that one the label.... and it has a really strong, weird taste.... to me. I prefer the neutral taste of the refined ones.... because you can really use it for cooking just about anything and it doesn't overpower with flavor. My favorite coconut oil is made by Omega Nutrition www.omeganutrition.com .... you can order online from them. I think they call it coconut " butter " . It's the same thing. I have some articles saved on the health benefits of coconut oil. Let me know and I'll forward them privately. It has antiviral and antifungal properties. In my experience, I think coconut oil tends to raise ketones. So if your child is already in strong ketosis, you might find that you need to lower the ratio or just only use a bit of coconut oil each day.... and watch for rising ketones. And also, balance by using other healthy fats.... olive oil, safflower, walnut oil, flax oil, etc (always expeller pressed, from the health food store, if you can). Anyway, coconut oil got a bad rap years ago as being unhealthy....... and it IS unhealthy if it's hydrogenated, which is how it was being used in lots of products..... along with hydrogenated palm oil. So, many food manufacturers went to using OTHER hydrogenated oils instead..... which aren't much better! It's the hydrogenation you want to avoid....... the trans fats. Very unhealthy.......for all of us! Patti questions We are new still and want to thank everyone for all the communications. I have learned so much just from reading old mail and reciepes! Thanks! Has anyone tried Crunchy Baked Cheese snacks? I read somewhere that they could be an option but I recieved some today and they have powdered cellulose? I couldn't find that in the keto book? Also, I read lots of refernces to coconut oil. What is the benefit of that. Does it taste better or have more fat? Last question Has anyone found the Ketogenic Cookbook by Brake helpful? Thanks again for the input! Melisa (Mason's mom on diet 1 1/2 months, only 1 seizure so far!)

Guest guest
Popcorn is one of my daughter's favorite meals. I use regular popcorn, popped in an air popper without fat. I weigh the popped corn and add it to the butter which has been weighed, then melted. She gets 9g. of popcorn which is about a cup, popped. It is SWIMMING in butter, but she loves it that way. She also gets turkey with mayo in this meal. No cream, so we can use all the carb. allowance for popcorn. Popcorn isn't the healthiest carb. source, but it does provide a good amt. of fiber which helps prevent constipation. I don't let her over-do this meal, but it is a treat for her. Cammie Someone mentioned popcorn - what is the contriversy here and > how do you measure it because it is listed on the nutrition facts as > unpopped but no way to weigh it that way if you give the micro kind > which I think is higher in fat. My GYN knew that I had a uterine anomoly since I was about 16 yrs old. He blew it off as no big deal and never did any tests to determine the exact type or anything. He always said that if I had problems having sex or getting pg, we would worry about it then. Well, I found this group and a few other BB groups and learned the importance of seeing an RE and went to one for a second opinion. Turned out that what I thought was an SU was really UD and also I had severe Endo which my GYN never paid attention to. So, in my opinion, seeing an RE is EXTREMELY important. They are specialists, moreso than a GYN, and can give you the best treatment. It doesn't mean that you can't still see your GYN though. Just my 2 cents. Guest guest
Marie, Thanks for your reply (my first one...yeaaa =) ) It's nice to hear input from someone who's a little further in the process than me. This is all so new for me, as I've only known about my SU for a few weeks now. I think I was extremely lukcy now looking back though. My OB seems to be very proactive. He was just trying to find the source of my pelvic pain when he discovered the MA. He ordered ultrasounds, HSG, and MRI all on his own and then did the lap/hst surgery after all that to fully diagonse. When he feels a little unsure he gets on the phone and calls the RE for his opinion as well. So I think I've just been fortunate in the fact that he's so quick and thourough and really takes my concerns seriously. Since I am not trying to get pg yet, I haven't checked into the whole RE thing yet, but I definitley will. It sounds like it certainly couldn't hurt. Thanks again for your input..it's always welcome! Guest guest
hi mari, if you take anything with your armour, it might not absorb properly. don't take your meds with food, or with other medication. take them seperately always and with a large glass of water (the more you drink, the faster armour kicks in). i take armour 3x a day and it's hard to balance it but don't eat at least 1 hour before and after taking it. also any allergens you have can limit absorption to. good luck, andrea Quoting Mari : > > > > > I am hypothyroid. Guest guest
If you were on 5 tabs of Thyroid-S, assuming that they are the 1 grain tabs.... dropping to one grain of Armour is a heck of a drop..... The timing here is off.... being on the Armour, not having the blood draw before switching.. you won't know what the Thyroid-S was doing for your levels... and with being on the Armour only, what 2 to 3 weeks... you won't be getting a very accurate picture of what is going on with the change in brand and the drop in dose.... I'm not familiar with how blood pressure meds might affect the thyroid hormones... someone else might be able to jump in on that.... How was your pulse rate, and how were you feeling, while on the Thyroid-S? How are you feeling now, compared to then? Topper () On Mon, 23 Jan 2006 16:53:30 -0000 "Mari" writes: I am hypothyroid. How was your pulse rate, and how were you feeling, while on the Thyroid-S? How are you feeling now, compared to then? Topper () On Mon, 23 Jan 2006 16:53:30 -0000 "Mari" writes: I am hypothyroid. Guest guest
Interesting. My medicine bottle for levoxyl says take 1 hour before, or 1 hour after eating. I don't know that I've noticed a big difference, I normally drink a lot of water, but I *do* take my levoxyl with other medications, e.g. lithium. My doctors never mentioned anything, nor my pharmacy about that. What do you think about that? Re: Questions hi mari,if you take anything with your armour, it might not absorb properly. don't takeyour meds with food, or with other medication. take them seperately always andwith a large glass of water (the more you drink, the faster armour kicks in).i take armour 3x a day and it's hard to balance it but don't eat at least 1 hourbefore and after taking it. also any allergens you have can limit absorptionto.good luck, andreaQuoting Mari :>>>>> I am hypothyroid. Guest guest
I can only speak for myself when I say that I can notice a difference. Some doctors honestly may not know this. Many standard family docs don't know a lot about thyroid hormones, their functions, etc. If you spread your pills out throughout the day you will notice you might have trouble sleeping, feeling jittery, etc. but if you think about it... you use less hormone asleep than you do awake, but you still use it when you are asleep. So in theory it is possible for you to over medicate your body even if the doc says you are fine. That really doesn't have much to do with your situation, I just happened to think of that though.... if you take 2 or 3 pills a day and all while you are awake, from the minute you take that last pill and it wears off, it's until the next day that you take the next pill, you might notice a difference to. Something to think about. Group, what do you think about that?? andrea Quoting My Group : > Interesting. My medicine bottle for levoxyl says take 1 hour before, or 1 > hour after eating. Guest guest
Synthetic T4 (that includes Synthroid, Levothyroxine, Levothroid, Eltroxin, and quite a few more) must be taken on an empty stomach, that's 1 hour before a meal or 4 hours after.. and with only enough water to swallow it.... The manufacturing process used in it's manufacture binds a sodium molecule to the T4 molecule... your body uses stomach acid to remove that sodium molecule to make the T4 available to your body... if your stomach acid is diluted with food contents, like water or food, or is too weak from the use of antacids.. the T4 can't be broken down to it's usable form. So the reason that you take it on empty stomach is to make the introduction of the daily dose as consistent as possible... The assumption being that an empty stomach as about the same acid content day to day... roughly... if you sometimes have food in there you reduce the efficiency of the process and get less of the hormone available to your body. It's best to try to take your thyroid separate from pretty much everything else, including vitamins.... the only exception seems to be that taking adrenal support along with the first dose of thyroid right away in the morning seems to be a good combo for those on adrenal support for adrenal fatigue.
