I have just been informed by my orthopedic surgeon that I need a knee

replacement. Who has gone through that and what can I expect from

the procedure and what amount of recovery time.

Thanks,

Rosie

I had TKR 2 years ago.. just after i submitted my PhD thesis.( I am now 37) It took me only 1 week to be warded ( and that was because they put me on antibiotic for a week), a day after the op, i was able to move my knee abit (with the help of the physiotherapist) and 3 weeks later, rite after my 1st appt with the surgeon, i was able to walk normally again, and after 2 years, i can climb the stairs at one time, and yes it feels so good to know that i am able to do it again after been suffered for quite a time

Anyway.. Good luck!

Rgds

Had to reply to the knee replacement comments. I had total knee replacement on my left knee three years ago at the age of ALMOST 53. At one time that was considered too young. But if you don't know this, my orthopedic surgeon told me that much has changed with the technology and the new knees have a much longer life span than they used to. Also, the components do have a shelf life, so make certain your surgeon is careful of this. I expect that by now, the procedure and components are even better than three years ago. Also, the quality of my life is so much better. How wonderful not to have to endure that excruciating pain after less than 5 minutes of walking. If your surgeon considers you a good candidate, don't hesitate. You'll be so glad you did it!!

I had two scopes done on my knee about 10 years ago, after I had been struck by a car. I was in such horrible pain from the procedures and the recovery was bad too. I went to see my ra dr on Thurs and he says the reason my knee is acting up so bad, is that I have OA in it and it's now bone on bone. I am scared to death of a knee replacement. I am only 45 years old. How much recovery time did it take you? Please write me with full details. Thanks so much!! Spencer <pachelbel1949@...> wrote:
