Guest guest
Well last night I was proud that I hadn't bothered you guys in a week or so. I had had 2 pretty good days, yesterday especially. The fog was much less, I wasn't vigorous but had good energy, not cold despite the weather! I had been sleeping good and felt a little refreshed in the morning, a new thing for me for sure. For over a week I had not had the waking hot with pounding heart at 3 am. I didn't know if it was the addtional 5 HC at bedtime or the 5 of cytomel as the light went out, as I had tried both individually and didn't seem to help until I did both. I am taking Cytomel 8.75/6.25/8.75/6.25/5. I had one day before added the additional 2.5 to two of the doses. I have been trying to increase 5mcg every 5 days or so. My temps avg 98.6 but can go as high as 99 or low as 98.3 during the day. Basal is 97.4 to 97.7. BP is normal ranges and increases on standing. Heart rate in bed this morning was 57!!! Usually I am running 60 in bed and 72 when up and sitting. I am taking HC 10/7.5/5/5/5 at bed. I am on the max dose of iron and getting my second IV tomorrow....first ferritin was 44 and I have been on supps for 3 weeks now. The reason for my post: 1. I have started having palps and irregular beats 2. For the first time in a long long time, I couldn't go to sleep last night. After a few hours I ended up taking sleep meds which I hate to do. Is my HR and palps due to hypo? If so, why does it happen right as I increase the dose and why are my temps almost normal? Should I try to increase again or..... Is my insomnia too much T3 after the raise, too much cortisol at bedtime? I want to decrease the bedtime dose but I was under the impression that I had been getting low cortisol during the night hence the sweating and waking up. Could be electrolytes as well. I had them drawn last week and will get the results tomorrow. I have been doing 1/4 tsp sea salt twice a day at Vals recommendation but never had abnormal electrolytes in the past and although I have had orthostatic symptoms in the past, not in a long time. Thank you. And let me say Nick and Val, I am sorry you have been ill and that I have been praying that you will get over it quickly. We all so much appreciate you. Guest guest
Val will probably have further advice when she gets back, Steve. My symptoms have been a little similar and I am still working things out but maybe this will help. What I would try if I were you: 1. Take 1/2 tsp of sea salt in water when you wake up with the pounding heart symptoms. You are utilizing more thyroid and cortisol and thus sodium, if I understand it correctly. If it is electrolytes, this should clear the symptoms in an hour. 2. Try the no carbs after 6 pm plus a fat/protein snack at bedtime, as Val recommends. 3. I experimented just last night when I woke up at 4 with sweats and couldn't go back to sleep for over an hour--I took one Isocort. I went back to sleep and then slept until almost 10 AM today!! So if 1 & 2 don't help, you might try a 2.5 dose of HC and see what happens. (Your temps look pretty good, so I would think that you T3 dose is pretty good right now.) BTW I am at 14 weeks, and just had the positive shift at 13 weeks, and just barely started Isocort. So I'm still in process but know I'm on the right track now. Guest guest
Sherry, Thanks for chiming in. I really do appreciate your input. But to be clear, the waking up had gotten a bit better. Still would wake at least once and maybe warm but not hot and able to fall right back asleep after a trip to the bathroom. My new problem is being wide awake and unable to fall asleep when I get in bed. Thats a new one for me, I am ususally dead tired and asleep in 15 mins. Then the palps are new too. I had them years ago before I crashed so I am sure related to all the problems I am dealing with, but this is the first time that they have come back with a persistence, so I just figured the sleep and the palps are connected since they both just started, but I don't have a clue if it's too much or too little T3 or HC or just iron. Guest guest
I take it as I'm trying to sleep lights out. Sounds good to me, that is what I would have suggested doing. The T3 sounds right, it's a case of up or down on the HC and playing with food intake Quiet time with dim light and no TV is also conducive to slowing the mind ready for sleep Nick
