Hi, Im just wondering what your Ferritin was when you first started iv iron.

Also, how long did it take you to get to 112 Ferritin? Im low on ferritin (22)

and have been stuck on 20 mcg cytomel forever it seems. I appreciate your

answer in advance :)

Hi Lore

Before the first IV it was 32 (I've had two IVs since the end of January). My

ferritin was 15 in 2008 and then 25 in July 2009. I was taking a minimal amount

of the wrong kind of iron then (hadn't found STTM and all this great info yet).

Then it went from 25 to 32 after two or three months of higher supplementing

with the better type of iron. Then I started the IVs. I'm sure glad I did them

and they were a breeze :o)

Just a fast question (it might be dumb too) - Will a persons Ferritin get lower if one takes blood samples all too often, like I do? :)Subject: Re: Ferritin HigherTo: RT3_T3 Date: Saturday, February 20, 2010, 6:38 PM

Kim, you mean that with just 2 iv iron infusions you went from 32 to 112? That

seems like what I need. I am taking 200 mg of ferrous sulphate every day and I

think it will likely take me forever. Is the iv iron called " venofer " ? My

doc's office doesn't offer it, but he said he'd look into ordering it for me if

I need it. While you were doing the infusions, did you continue to supplement

with the pills? If so, how much. Thanks again Kim!

Hi Lore

Yes isn't that great! I don't know if it would be that way for everyone (not

sure why it wouldn't be?) I am so happy about it. I guess there was probably a

couple or three weeks between the ferritin test that showed 32 and the first IV.

I was supplementing heavily then so maybe it was a bit higher than 32 when I

started the IVs but I wouldn't think by much.

It was the venofer that I had (which from what I read is the only one to get).

An older type that used to be used could cause side effects but this one doesn't

for most people and didn't at all for me. My doctor didn't do them either but

was just in the middle of setting up to give vitamin IVs for patients and when I

asked him about the venofer he agreed. He wrote up a prescription and then I

went and picked up the venofer (took a few days for the pharmacy to get it) and

took it to his office where the IV was done. I didn't supplement the day of the

IV but did right up to the day before and again after (I was taking 168mg of the

BlueBonnet iron with 1000mg vit C and my B vitamin spread out over the day).

Then when I got the ferritin test I had to stop supplementing for the five days.

I also haven't had my period for a few months (quite irregular) and I know that

will effect ferritin. I sure hope it works out that you can get them. Going to

get another ferritin test in about a month to see what's happening :o)
