Guest guest
Sherrie, Not everyone can qualify for SSD. Its a different program from SSI. SSD is based on your earnings over a period of time. If you did not work enough or have no spouse to draw off then you would not be able to get SSD. You can however apply for SSI. That is open to everyone or meets the disability guidelines as well as the income guidelines. SSI is an income based program for those that meet a certain criteria. I have a daughter that was on SSI and for a family of four our max monthly income was $2800 a month...One penny over that and she got no money and no medicaid. In most states SSI comes automaticly with medicaid...not in all states though. I am in texas and have lived in SC and GA and they all had SSI/mediciad as a package deal. I lived in Hawaii and my duaghter did not get medicaid with SSI. Hawaii has state semi-socialized medicine program. You can get SSD and also get medicare and medicaid. If your income is low enough the medicaid will pick up where the medicare has left off. Please check your local paper for articles about proposed changes to the SSD/SSI system. This many effect you or others around you in the future. SSDI-social security disability income SSI-social security income I truly thinks he government makes these programs intentionally confusing to make sure that those of us that are sick get nothing!
