Guest guest
I can identify with what you've expressed, and it is a very nerve-wracking experience considering that it came out of a positive decision (to rid oneself of something that was causing harm.) I think it diminishes over time. I don't dislike anyone simply because they use AA or were successful in their exposure, but nontheless I don't have any personal friends or acquaintances in AA. I never even explored the idea of criticism of AA or the group's potential for harm until I saw a pattern once I made it clear that AA wasn't useful for me. This still continues, my family found refuge in consolation from some of them, and they persist in their insistence of " dry drunks " and other non-AA'ers, even though I'm no longer a target, two of them beat this dead horse with my family and call constantly (yea, it sounds hard to believe, but unfortunately it's true...) But it's easy to see through and I don't think that anyone in my family or any other individual that I'm close to actually believes it. I'm sure many people have rejected AA simply because it failed to help them abstain, and destructive alcohol use continued to harm their life to the extent that it had before. By succeeding at solving a personal problem you will obviously feel better about yourself and are better able to work on other aspects of your life, even if it takes time. AA is very attractive to some people for a number of reasons-especially because it doesn't hold anyone accountable for their past. When I stopped believing the 12-step creed, I was faced with the prospect of accountability rather than a panacea of denial. But the flip side of this is control of myself in the future and an ability to achieve whatever I wanted, rather than powerlessness or the presence of a chronic disease. I know this sounds mundane, but focus on the positive if you can!

Guest guest
Dear , Once one has " seen the light " about what AA is doing one cannot go back there. Initially I tried to continue going to AA meetings because I thought I needed a support group. But very soon the big AA lies made me feel very bad after every AA meeting I attended. Although I am an agnostic, brought up in the Christian (Roman Catholic) faith, I tried going to church instead of going to AA meetings. That also did help for a while but I had to give that up in the end too. In the end I confided in my friends and some of my relatives. I told them about my drinking problem and everything I had gone through. When I am in my friends company I manage controlled drinking at lunches or dinner parties etc. When I am by myself I know I can not cope with alcohol. So I know that I should not have any alcohol in the house when I am by myself. After a lunch or dinner party I dispose of all alcohol in the sink. I rather buy new bottles for a next party then being tempted. I hope some of my experience may be of help to you and to other people who read this. Kind regards, > Hi group > Like many of us, I am an AA miracle...I got out! Some people leave or drift > from AA in decent shape, as their minds are still intact. Guest guest
Tina Welcome to the group. I am sorry for your losses but I am glad you found us. Finding this group was the best thing that could of happened to me after my ep in Dec. 00. I lost my rt tube and am waiting (not so patiently to get hsg done) You are right there are alot of great success stories here, I think that is what keeps me going. I know it is hard and scary, but remember, people do bet the odds all the time. ++++++++++++++++thoughts go out to you. --- Tina Pissarra wrote: > Hi, > > My name is Tina and I am new to this group. Guest guest
Hi Tina, Welcome to the group. I am sorry for your losses, but glad that you found us. I am in the exact same boat that you are in, praying that I can still concieve naturally with one tube lost to an ep, and the other one scarred. It hasn't worked yet, but I, too, am hoping it will when we really start trying seriously. I hope that you will find the support that you are looking for here. I know that I have. Guest guest
Tina, I'm sorry you had to find us, but welcome to the group! There are plenty of women here who have had multiple eps and gone on to have successful pgs. Please don't lose heart! I think the best thing to do is see a doctor that specializes in cases like yours and discuss your options. Dominique
