Hi

These are results from a friend of mine on the scdoz diet group.

Sky

Hi Sky,

Haven’t seen Dr Ludka Berkowski yet, but have got back my test results via my GP.

Sodium 140 (135-145)

Potassium 3.8 (3.5-5.5)

Iron 14.6 (5-30)

Ferritin 100 (30-300)

TSH 2.84 (.4-4)

Free T4 13.2 (9-19)

Free T3 3.5 (2.6-6) pmol/L

RT3 399 (140-540) pmol/L

B12 830 (145-637)

RBC Folate 2966 (776-1784)

Tg Ab <20 (0-80)

TPO Ab <10 (0-120)

Free Testosterone .8 (0.1-13.5)

Cortisol 24U 111 (54-319)

Vit D 58 (51-140)

Urinary Iodine 85 (50-100 = mild deficiency

Coeliac Genetic negative = “extremely unlikelyâ€

GP thought low Testosterone and Iodine might be significant. I was reading on the net that low iodine, even in the absence of abnormal thyroid results can still produce hypothyroid symptoms. As I used to overproduce Androgens prior to menopause, low Testosterone might be a big player in my low physical and mental energy, and decreased mental processing speeds.

Dr B will no doubt read more into the other tests.

Sodium and Potassium – what are ideal levels? Am using Lake Salt .... is that not the same as Celtic Salt?

I am having monthly B12 shots and GP happy to keep it over the top of reference range.

Not taking any folate, that I am aware of but will check my multivit.

I am taking Ostelin twice daily for Vit D, and it has raised slightly from previous test on only occasional supplementation.

Iodine – it sounds bizarre, but I kept thinking about it (and midnight cravings for anchovies!) and then reading about it in relation to RA – Edgar Cayce recommended Atomic Iodine (very concentrated form) for RA, plus dietary and Epsom salt bath detox. Does it normalise if you sort out RT3 problem, or do you address that when RT3 sorted?

I don’t eat Tomatoes as Solanaceous veg and not recommended for RA. Not eating any fruit at present per naturopath’s suggestion to see if fructose intolerant. Used to eat a lot of bananas before last month. Don’t feel any better for fruit avoidance so will add bananas back in.

Cortisol – any Cortisol test is going to be skewed, being on Prednisone. Can’t stop suddenly and am taking it for RA, not gut dysfunction. Sudden halt will cause rebound reaction and RA flare. Tricky – would blood cortisol be any more accurate, as Prednisone converts to Cortisol? I’d bet my hat on low cortisol given my history of Prednisone being the only thing really successful in 15 years of treating severe RA. I’ve always thought RA was a symptom of low adrenal function and tried to follow adrenal support protocols.

I have a lot of adrenal symptoms – they seem to relate to all the different adrenal hormones. I tried the light/pupil test but couldn’t tell whether I was getting normal adjustment or too much flickering.... I remember when I was studying Anatomy and Physiology 15 years ago recognising Hans Selye’s General Adaption Syndrome in myself. Permanent flight or fight symptoms, followed by adaptation to stress, followed by exhaustion.....

My chiropractor suggested 20 years ago that I had adrenal fatigue when he first examined and muscle tested me. I had no DHEA production 5 years ago and take daily supplements of compounded DHEA. Started on 55mg originally but after some time on DHEA plus Adrenotone from naturopath, my own production picked up a bit- been stable at 15mg per day for a couple of years. Haven’t got that result back yet, but feel like it is low at present as my hair and scalp are dry, and feel like it’s difficult to get oxygen.

I also had lifelong overproduction of androgens (for which I took Androcur very happily for several years) till menopause several years back, and possible polycystic ovaries – always had overly heavy, prolonged periods, short cycle and hot flushes from teens. Difficulty sleeping for years. Gone from hyperactive to hypo. Also reactive hypoglycaemia since childbirth, so very flakey in adrenal department!

Also still have the issue of blood in my stool from last bowelscan so booked for colonoscopy and endoscopy on 22nd to rule out any serious mischief. Have never had either before, so probably good to have a base line in case of future developments.

I am sure if I can get to grips with the Thyroid stuff, my gut and RA stuff will improve a lot. I have always pinned my hopes of recovery on various statements that my RA “is not typical..is puzzling...is suggestive of immune problem...â€. It also holds out hope for my son who, post removal of brain tumour and pituitary gland, has a lot of hypo symptoms which are generally ascribed to brain injury, but could be due to, or exacerbated by, inadequate hormone replacement.

Iodine wil not help as her T4 levels are nto that low but her FT3/Rt3

ratio is too low. It is 8.77 and needs ot be at least 20 so it is VERY

bad. She also has some indications of weak adrneals wiht a tqd low

soidum and potasium and testosterone. Vitamin D needs ot be higher and

urinary coritl sis low.
