I had mouth sores mostly when I was on Methotrexate, but still have

had some since I've been on the current combination (Arava and

Kineret). They seem to show up in various places, sometimes on the

gum, sometimes inside the lip, and sometimes on the roof of the

mouth. The dentist said they were canker sores. Taking folic acid

seems (for me) to keep them from occuring very often.

I haven't had time to read all the messages asking about mouth sores, but I

can tell you they're a common side effect of MTX. Common enough that if you

tell your dentist you're on MTX he'll recognize the name and know about the

effects of it (if he doesn't, you need a new dentist). I've never heard of

Enbrel or Humira causing mouth sores when used by themselves... it's just

that most people taking either of those two are also on MTX. To my

knowledge mouth sores aren't commonly caused by Enbrel or Humira alone. I'm

sure it can happen, but it isn't likely.

Thanks, Jenni, you have put my mind at ease. I am only on Humira, I have

some sores that have been sticking around on the roof of my mouth. Who

knows, I probably burnt it with some hot food! I just get paranoid sometimes,

you know?!

My ra dr told me that they can be caused by the ra or lupus. I haven't taken MTX in almost a year, and I still periodically get them. ~Jenni <chaospearl@...> wrote:
