I had my lap BPD/DS at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta Ga performed

by the most talented Dr. Dennis , Jr. on 11-15-00. I had some

respiratory problems related to my severe sleep apnea, but the DS

itself has been uneventful. I was discharged from the hospital on 11-

20 and returned home on 11-24. Pain was well managed and I would say

I have not had any pain over 3. I have not thrown up once and I

haven't experienced any nausea at all. I am drinking plenty of

fluids, eating a mostly liquid diet, and healing.

The hospital staff at Kennestone (with one minor exception) was

outstanding. Very supportive and caring. From the night nurse

in ICU who studied one of my comorbids at home so he could know how

to treat me properly, to the day nurse in ICU who brought me some

gatorade even when the hospital didn't have any, to the physical

therapist who arranged to have a comfortable Bariatric bed delivered

to my room at 6:30 pm on a cold rainy Saturday so I could sleep more

comfortably. Outstanding care, just outstanding. And I can't forget

Louisette, who washed my dirty but and was cheerful and friendly the

whole time. She scrubbed me like she was washing an old antique car.

Dr. did a great job. With a BMI of 61, I was his heaviest (100%)

lap patient to date. At the time of surgery I was 453 lbs. The

surgery took longer than expected, but he is not one to rush through

a procedure. That was one of the the things I liked about him.

So from my perspective 11 days out, I can recommend Dr. and

Kennestone. Dr. can only do one or two DS surgeries per week

because of his other surgical obligations, but he may be worth the

wait. His staff is not terribly responsive, but I understand they are

getting better.

I will be glad to answer any specific questions anyone may have. Just

e-mail me.
