Guest guest
Skye, I was thinking since I read this email. Yesterday my son had some interesting trivia, did you know that the average child (toddler) laughs approximately 150 times per day and the average adult laughs only 17 times per day........Is it any wonder that children are healthier? So, my thought was, if you are not able to get out much perhaps we could try to make you laugh with some of the best jokes we recieve through email. What do you think? If you like the idea then share with us what type of jokes you like and I'll try to get the ball rolling. Guest guest
Dear Skye- Not alot of people understand this, but a hot shower relaxes the muscles and actually reactivates the meds in your system by promoting blood circulation to the body and the meds are in essence recirculated. Shower and then go back to bed. Take a nap, and when you wake up, you might feel better. Also when I wake up I take prednisone, plaquenil, ibuprofen and PTU. After a shower, some days I feel worse, and some times better. It depends on many factors. For alot of people, unconsciousness is the only cure for a mind and body beset by severe pain. Try if at all possible to see a pain management specialist, and perhaps some psychological counseling. I was put on a happy pill, namely trazadone and ativan which help me most of the time. If you are in a happy languid state, it helps. Remember that although you dont understand it right now in the midst of your agony, you were chosen, as well are, to bear this adversity. I got through alot of my bad days knowing that I am a shining beacon and example to others who suffer, by empathy, sympathy, patience, kindness. I pass on my wisdom and try to teach tolerance and acceptance as well as knowledge about this disease and others like it. I try to remind people that their bodies and their health are gifts, not something to be taken for granted. How family squabbles and indifferences in the world are so unnecessary because our time on this earth is so short. People dont like to be reminded of their mortality, (illness, death, pain, suffering) but when they do see through my eyes, it makes a profound change in them. I have helped so many others bear hardship by offering insight and support. You are doing that too. You are a miracle, and I know all of us on this board think so. We all are miracles just getting through each day. Try not to dwell on what this disease takes away from you, because in stages, you will lose them, but with the right medications and new medical breakthroughs that might change. Try to adapt to doing other things, things you can easily manage. It can be as simple as watering a plant, or taking a course online!!! We all have good days and bad days. When you have one good day out of seven, it can be agony. I used to have all bad days. One day after another. For a year I couldnt do anything but lay in bed, steeped in self pity and fear. Once they got my cocktail mixed up, my quality of life improved 100 fold. Its a trade off of course, shortening my life, but quantity doesnt matter to me, where quality does matter.......ALOT. Try growing bulbs indoors, or play scrabble on Cd-Rom. If you think you can manage it, I can send you a loom and some yarn. Its very easy, and very soothing. Its just a small round ring made of soft rubber and nylon. You wrap yarn around it and you are knitting. If you are interested, I will send you one with everything you need to get started. Very soft hugs.........Deborah

I have it washed now. It's my one extravagance for myself so I don't have to cut it. Nina
Guest guest
Congrats on your Enbrel approval Nina. I used to have waist length hair too but it was too much work to keep it long and I gave it up. RA sure does change your life in a lot of ways. I had to get the gear shift loosened on my car. And the first thing I check on a car is whether or not I can open the door. Guest guest
Hot bathes used to get me going when I couldn't. When we were trying to find out what was wrong with me, I was taking several hot bathes a day. Couldn't get out of bed, had to crawl to the tub. My manager had to carry me out of the store cuz I just couldn't walk anymore. Our son was only 6 and I had to get him to and from school. Didn't know how I'd make it from one minute to the next. So that helped me along with lots of naps. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maggie http://www.4HockeyFans.com http://www.4FloridaHockey.com MSN: Maggies1429 AOL: Maggies85 -----Original Message-----From: dbargad@... Guest guest
*nodding* Yes, my husband can always tell if I'm not feeling well because I head straight for the tub. Course sometimes it's hard to get in and out of there (soft smiles). kins -------Original Message------- From: Maggie Date: 04/09/05 20:04:39 Rheumatoid Arthritis Subject: RE: RE Hot showers Hot bathes used to get me going when I couldn't. Guest guest
We just don't have a good health care system in this country - I believe the poor and the elderly should ALWAYS be taken care of, and I'm sure sorry that you've not been able to get something that you need. On the phone, the insurance company said they wouldn't cover it but when the claim was submitted they did pay. Pat

I haven't heard yet if I'm approved or not. The doc said if not, there were other options. I'm not ready to give it up yet. :-) It's so straight and fine (Native American) that I don't know what I would do with if it were short. I can't perm it anymore because I'm on too many meds. I can put it up in the summer to stay cool and leave down in the winter to keep me warm. > RA sure does change your life in a lot of ways. I had to get the gear shift loosened on my car.And the first thing I check on a car is whether or not I can open the door. It sure does change your life! My husband is gone to work a week at a time. When I'm not taking so much prednisone as I am now, he opens dog food cans and puts the stuff in a plastic container in the fridge. He makes sure my meds are in a container that can be opened. He helps me shop and makes sure all the groceries are in the house and put away. Good health is definitely wasted on the healthy! I wish I had known 15 years ago that this was coming. I would have changed a lot of things. Nina
