Guest guest
i am new to this group, coming here from adrenals and NTH. i am really grateful for all of this information. i just listened to val's and janie's talk show about Rt3 and i am wondering if i need to get this test now or if i can hold off. currently i am taking 12 mcg SR T3 and 50 mcg synthroid - for 4 weeks. i want to switch to dessicated thyroid but i need to have labs run first. i am feeling very sick and would like to change my meds soon but my doc won't see me until it has been 8 weeks. janie gave me advice on NTH this morning. so i am planning on running labs now (ordering them myself) then going from there. this is all more complicated because i don't know which symptoms are hypo, which are adrenal, and which are possibly not even related to any of it. here is some background: my labs before taking anything in 11/09. no other thyroid labs were run. TSH = 5.2 (4 - 4.0) FT4 = .7 (.6 - 1.8) TG AB = .8 (in range) i started on synthroid, little relief, then switched myself to thyoid-s, felt AWFUL on that after 3 weeks so went to a ND who put me on the above regimen of synthetic crappola. after one month on this i am again confined to bed. i will admit my depression is MUCH better now than on the thyroid-s, but physically i feel awful. i have not had more thyroid labs run since then. however, in the meantime i had ZRT cortisol x 4 and it was very high. not on any adrenal support. val helped me with these results. AM = 21.5 HIGH {3.7 - 9.5} NOON = 6.4 HIGH {1.2 - 3.0} EVENING = 2.7 HIGH {.6 - 1.9} NIGHT = .9 {.4 - 1.0} i plan to check TSH, FT4, FT3 and TPO ab. if i also need the RT3 test, it will be more complicated as i have to order through a different place and this will add time and it overwhelms me (another symptom, i can't deal with much!). i am just feeling very desperate as i am so sick of being sick and i just want to get better! what would be the recommended course of action? thank you so much! Hello and welcome, Val's on the sick list and I am trying to catch up with posts > >currently i am taking 12 mcg SR T3 and 50 mcg synthroid - for 4 weeks. i want to switch to dessicated thyroid but i need to have labs run first. i am feeling very sick and would like to change my meds soon but my doc won't see me until it has been 8 weeks. janie gave me advice on NTH this morning. so i am planning on running labs now (ordering them myself) then going from there. this is all more complicated because i don't know which symptoms are hypo, which are adrenal, and which are possibly not even related to any of it. It's a jumble and making sense of it with hypo brain fog makes it harder. An RT3 and FT3 done at the same time will eliminate RT3 as a possible cause The general advice is to add adrenal support until temperatures are stable and then add thyroid to bring temperature up >here is some background: > >my labs before taking anything in 11/09. no other thyroid labs were run. >TSH = 5.2 (4 - 4.0) >FT4 = .7 (.6 - 1.8) >TG AB = .8 (in range) Very hypo > >i started on synthroid, little relief, then switched myself to thyoid-s, felt AWFUL on that after 3 weeks so went to a ND who put me on the above regimen of synthetic crappola. after one month on this i am again confined to bed. i will admit my depression is MUCH better now than on the thyroid-s, but physically i feel awful. Any ferritin or temperature tests??? > >i have not had more thyroid labs run since then. however, in the meantime i had ZRT cortisol x 4 and it was very high. not on any adrenal support. val helped me with these results. > >AM = 21.5 HIGH {3.7 - 9.5} >NOON = 6.4 HIGH {1.2 - 3.0} >EVENING = 2.7 HIGH {.6 - 1.9} >NIGHT = .9 {.4 - 1.0} The early stage when adrenals are pumping out extra co compensate for low thyroid. These should recover if you get the thyroid right but might mean you need " little and often " on the T3. >i plan to check TSH, FT4, FT3 and TPO ab. if i also need the RT3 test, it will be more complicated as i have to order through a different place and this will add time and it overwhelms me (another symptom, i can't deal with much!). i am just feeling very desperate as i am so sick of being sick and i just want to get better! > >what would be the recommended course of action? thank you so much! Well if you can't get the RT3 test you could just assume you might have it and go T3 only. You won't be worse off than on a T4/T3 mix and might be better off. I haven't heard Ferritin mentioned, getting that measured is a MUST. Have a read of here www.thyroid-rt3.com and ask questions as they arise, answers may be slow as Val is off sick Nick
Guest guest
Hi Nick! Thank you so much for the reply. I didn't see your reply until today. I did get more labs run after I wrote that message, including the RT3. Here are those results: TSH: .668 (.45-4.5) FT4: 1.15 (.82-1.77) FT3: 3.5 (2.0 - 4.4) RT3: 290 (90 - 350) Ferritin: 37 (10 - 291) FT3/RT3 ratio = 12 I bought some of the Blue Bonnet iron and will take 150 mg - 200 mg elemental iron per day to boost the ferritin. I know this may not allow me to increase the T3 but I am going to try. I read everything on your site, and if I am understanding it correctly I will indeed need to go on T3 only. Val sent me the source list so I purchased the cynomel. In the meantime I am taking my SR T3 and I dropped the synthroid. I don't think the SR T3 has any effect on me, I increased my SR T3 to 24 mcg and I feel like my eyelids and limbs are made of lead. My basal temp and HR: 97.3/64 Would you please confirm that I am on the right path? My only concern: if the SR T3 is so weak, which I believe it is - in effect making my meds almost like T4 only - would adding cynomel to T4 clear up my RT3? Not sure if it works like that. But please let me know what you think. Somewhere you said that if your RT3 is over 250 you will need T3 only, since my RT3 is 290 this is my plan. Thanks so much for all your help! > > >i am new to this group, coming here from adrenals and NTH. i am really grateful for all of this information. i just listened to val's and janie's talk show about Rt3 and i am wondering if i need to get this test now or if i can hold off. > > Hello and welcome, Val's on the sick list and I am trying to catch up > with posts > > > >currently i am taking 12 mcg SR T3 and 50 mcg synthroid - for 4 weeks. i want to switch to dessicated thyroid but i need to have labs run first. i am feeling very sick and would like to change my meds soon but my doc won't see me until it has been 8 weeks. janie gave me advice on NTH this morning. so i am planning on running labs now (ordering them myself) then going from there. this is all more complicated because i don't know which symptoms are hypo, which are adrenal, and which are possibly not even related to any of it. > > It's a jumble and making sense of it with hypo brain fog makes it > harder. > > An RT3 and FT3 done at the same time will eliminate RT3 as a possible > cause > > The general advice is to add adrenal support until temperatures are > stable and then add thyroid to bring temperature up > > >here is some background: > > > >my labs before taking anything in 11/09. no other thyroid labs were run. > >TSH = 5.2 (4 - 4.0) > >FT4 = .7 (.6 - 1.8) > >TG AB = .8 (in range) > > Very hypo > > > >i started on synthroid, little relief, then switched myself to thyoid-s, felt AWFUL on that after 3 weeks so went to a ND who put me on the above regimen of synthetic crappola. after one month on this i am again confined to bed. i will admit my depression is MUCH better now than on the thyroid-s, but physically i feel awful. > > Any ferritin or temperature tests??? > > > >i have not had more thyroid labs run since then. however, in the meantime i had ZRT cortisol x 4 and it was very high. not on any adrenal support. val helped me with these results. > > > >AM = 21.5 HIGH {3.7 - 9.5} > >NOON = 6.4 HIGH {1.2 - 3.0} > >EVENING = 2.7 HIGH {.6 - 1.9} > >NIGHT = .9 {.4 - 1.0} > > The early stage when adrenals are pumping out extra co compensate for > low thyroid. Guest guest
Nick, thanks!!! I appreciate the guidance and support - I would surely be sicker for a lot longer if I had not found all this information. I will let you all know how it goes. In good health! lisa > > >Would you please confirm that I am on the right path?
