7 weeks on minocycline

Hi,

I have had RA for 11 months. I've been on minocycline for 4 weeks and

minocin for 3 weeks (100 mg m-w-f). I have gotten worse, although it doesn't

seem like a Herxhermer, because it's a steady worsening. I'm afraid it's the

disease progressing even more.

I've put off taken the conventional drugs but if minocycline doesn't work I

will go on them. How do I know if this will work? What about the risk of

the untreated inflammation in my joints?

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

Chances are you could be suffering from a Herx, which feels very much

like a bad flare and, unfortunately, can go on for awhile. In the

meantime, try to rest as much as possible, watch your diet and drink

tons of water to flush those toxins out of your system. As for joint

inflammation, you should be taking some sort of nsaid if you can

tolerate them to help keep the swelling down as the Minocin can better

get at those little critters in your joints if the swelling is reduced.

Also ice swollen joints as frequently as possible and I've also had

great success in reducing swelling by using magnets, which might be

something else worth trying. This is a long, slow treatment that often

involves three steps forward and two steps back so this is probably one

of your " steps back " . Just be patient, ask whatever questions you have,

scream from support when you need it and I'll bet you'll start feeling a

little better soon.

Hugs,

a Peden

Hi.

It does sound like a herx to me. The same thing happened to me at the

beginning; I got gradually worse, then one day, Poof!, I felt better. Keep

believing. Lots of us have improved after treatment and after initial

worsening of symptoms. I'm sure others will share the same experience with

you. Feel better soon.

Warm regards,
