Arthritis Related Heart Problems: A Disease-by-Disease Look

Although atherosclerosis is the most common cardiovascular problem in people with arthritis, particularly those with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and lupus, it is far from being the only one. Different forms of arthritis can affect the heart in many ways. Here are some examples.

Reply: One of the treatments for atherosclerosis is folic acid -- and practically each one of us is on it. That definitely does not mean that we have atherosclerosis. To me it means my rheumy is taking care of me. When I asked him why he was recommending folic acid he said "to protect your heart". Also I read somewhere that MTX can inhibit the absorption of folic acid -- so, let's make sure we take. It is probably the cheapest drug we take and may be the one protecting us the most.

Folic Acid is so under appreciated!

Something we really need and we can get it OTC.
