Guest guest
Shaa, I don't mean this in any disrespectful way at all but I'm sure glad you're on this list. I can tell that you have a lot to learn so keep asking questions and listening to all the wisdom and advise these women can share. You'll be such a great support to your daughter in law with all the info you'll gain here. Fawn

Guest guest
Nowadays, the American Pediatric association recommends that children be exclusively breastfed for at least 6 months, and they don't really need any food until they are a year old, breast milk has all the calories, nutrients and vitamins that they need. Eating before a year old for most babies is an experiment with taste and texture and feeding themselves. Guest guest
Pat, I would suggest ditching the cereal. I would go with banana, pear, avocado and baked sweet potato as first foods. The cereal will definitely clog her up. Cereal is very overly processed and not that nutritious. Fresh veggies and fruits are a more nutritious choice. All jarred food is cooked before it is pureed for the jar so it loses a lot of nutrients. I can't find my book right now but will look up Flonase when I find it. I just want to say thank you Wendi for such an awesome list. Michele, I have an Isis, I bought it at A Child's Place in Winnipeg and it was $70, but that was a kit with the pump, a bottle and lots of liners, and I highly recommend it. I think pumps should be free or subsidised from the government, because then less babies would be sick, needing less expensive baby care later. Makes sense doesn't it? I was feeding threee tablespoons of barley cereal throughout the day with a tablespoon of fruit or veggie at supper. She didn't poop for three days and when she did it was lots and stinky. She wasn't crampy or grunting, so I don't think she was in any real discomfort. So I have switched her down to just a tablespoon of fruit or a tablespoon of cereal a day. I mix the cereal with Mommy milk or water, and I started mixing it a lot sloppier and she still only poops every three days. She isn't starving, she is 22lbs at seven months. I don't want to stop feeding her solids, she sits at the supper table and demands to eat like us. She eats very well. She is so awesome!! Will barley cereal bung her up? Wouldn't the fruit and veggie loosen her up? Also, I was given " Flonase " for an ear infection for me. The doctor said it was okay to take while nursing, but if you have any idea of my history with the medical profession you would understand my questioning it. Any one have a clue? Sorry this was long and thank you very much for any help. Give the Gift of Life Breastfeed!http://www.lactivist.com

Guest guest
Shaa, I would highly recommend that you go and read the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation for breastfeeding. Solids are not recommended before 6 months. Feeding a baby solids at a month is not at all recommended and is linked with diabetes, asthma and food allergies. Even 4 months is too early to start most babies on solids. You really would do your DIL a great service to inform yourself of the current feeding recommendations for infants. Guest guest
I just have to say that I think it is so wonderful that you are on this list and interested in helping your daughter-in-law like this. The support you give your daughter-in-law will be priceless, to her and to your grandson, who will benefit enormously from breastfeeding. I had a supportive mother and mother-in-law, and it made a huge difference to me. Though many recommendations have changed since they had their babies, like you they were interested in learning more and in helping me take the very best care of my babies. Today my kids are five years old and fifteen months, and they just adore both their Grandmas so much. It is a beautiful relationship. Guest guest
Hi Sandy This is only my second time on line since I joined. Are you guys on every night? I was dx with RP about 10 years ago, but have never been followed for it by a dr until this month. The flares are coming closer together and the Pred is becoming less effective ~ at this point on 60 mg a day. I chose to ignore it as long as I could, but my body is finally saying " I Give " !!! Guest guest
Well, each time I had a flare up, I would go to the doctor and basically tell them what to prescribe. No one knew anything about it! So, I've only been treated with the Pred and only during the flares. Unfortunately this has resulted in some serious damage to my body. But, I'm not a very good patient and I don't follow doctors orders very well, lol! Never been one of those people who think that my doctor is GOD! But I guess maybe it's time to give it a shot.
