Guest guest
Hi Newbie : A long time ago, someone told me about Prilosec to help with your stomach. My RD gave me an ongoing script of that and I take one every day. It helps alot except when I was having problems with MTX stomach problems. Guest guest
Hi Barb in CA from Patsy in CA, I hope I am not saying something to you that I said before since I know I have shared this info with someone on this forum. I must take Allegra to keep infections at bay with my Enbrel. Probably different brands of allergy meds work for different people. Since being on Enbrel, I need it every day. I usually take it around 10:00 in the morning. Right now I have a " bug " anyway as do most people around L.A. (Pasadena). I had my flu shot so I am not quite as bad off as most of the population -- if fever blisters on my lips and in my mouth don't count! Actually I am miserable, but then Allegra can't keep everything away all the time. Patsy -----Original Message----- From: Kendall [mailto:bbkendall@...] Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2001 9:26 PM egroups Subject: Re: [ ] MIA reporting in Hi Rainy, Have missed you!! Just wanted to drop in and let you know that I had " colds' while on arava also. I called the manufacturer and they said that this was very common. I even went off it for a few months and still got another cold/sinus/chest thing four weeks after starting it for the second time. just an FYI!! I have had to lay low, my hands/fingers are bad again. There has been hardly any rain here in Northern Calif and the mold count is really high, thus my allergies are also. I had to forgo my MTX for the last few weeks because I didn't know if I had a cold or the starting of a sinus infection, and with my remicade on 1/2, we didn't want to take a chance. had the remicade, but my hands always pay the price of no MTX. I have found the combo of MTX and remicade to be it for me. My MD is even going to see if I can have it every 4-6 weeks instead of waiting 8 weeks between infusions. The interesting thing is that my liver has been normal since starting the remicade!! Pretty amazing since my tests have been elevated since 1997!! I think that when my RA is flaring it involves the liver, any thoughts on that??????? Hello to all the newbies, I am not new, just don't post often. I am one of those who thinks that I don't have the right words to help. So I pray alot. I figure if God knows my heart then he knows what I'm really trying to say even when I fumble the words. Also, I have to choose what I get done during the day, while my hands are like this, and wouldn't you know it, my family likes to eat and wear clean clothes!! Ok, gotta get going, I home school my 7th grader and need to get on it! Bye for now, know that I'm always here, I read EVERY post and am constantly thinking of you all. Oh, BTW, I asked my MD about the so called " cure " that was recently in the news, he said it was very promising!!! Guest guest
I have a bad sinus infection due to being run down by MTX and havent taken it for two weeks. I saw my RD and he put me on Tetracycline Stat. He wants me to take it for two weeks and then start back on my MTX and Remicade. I am severely allergic to Remicade now, and MTX is the only thing that makes it tolerable, yet I get terrible infections. I am afraid to go out anywhere because I am so prone to everything with my immune system wiped out. I am having a hard time tolerating MTX 25mg and take 2 mg a day for four days, but now the RD says it causes liver damage so I have to take it twice a day in small doses for two days. I cant win. Yikes.
Guest guest
Ron, My infections tend to follow a fairly predictable course: 1. HUGE headache on one side of my face 2. HUGE amounts of congestion 3. asthma attack b/c the mucus and related inflammation have spread to my lungs SO my standard protocol is to start pred and levaquin much earlier than the normal person in order to avoid ending up in the hospital. Also I have my own nebulizer. Antibiotics that are not fluoroquinolones no longer work for me. Also, I usually keep a scrip on hand b/c I tend to start infections at the end of the week and my pulmo has hospital rounds on Friday, so I can't get seen. The last hospital episode I had was in the wee hours a few hours before Xolair got approval. I had gone to urgent care that Sunday and gotten some Zithromax, which did not work. I had taken so much albuterol by the time I got to the hospital that my lung sats were ok and the ER doc wouldn't change my antibiotic or give me a cortisone shot or anything. The nurse signing me out whispered " call your specialist as soon as the office opens. " My pulmo wasn't due in that day but the nurse called him and he came in just to see me when he found out I'd been in the ER.... Guest guest
Thank you, I decided I was going too get much more aggressive prior to ending up in the hospital again. I started preventive stuff this time but the Dr stated. " to little, to late " (I decided I would rather take a beating then up my Prednisone to the required levels, as it turned out I took a beating and the Pred would have been better LOL). He pretty much laid out a course of action like you describe. I guess I knew what my body was doing, I was just reluctant to do what I knew I needed to do (I got a prior general Ok from the Dr but not " specific " , or so I thought until I spoke with Him). I guess the moral, of the story is to communicate, make sure of the communication, and trust in myself and the DR a little more (yea, I have medical trust issues, some would say I have a lot of issues, but I don't trust them! LOL). I'm a slow study, but your experiences parallel mine pretty closely (onset of YIKES! here we go again) Thanks Ron On Apr 18, 2006, at 5:33 AM, pyle456 wrote: > Ron, > > My infections tend to follow a fairly predictable course: > 1. Guest guest
Ahh the evil candy strikes again....you see it draws you back in just when you think u can do without WHAM! Whhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (that is the sound of the pred taper flying out the window....) I am right now holding onto my pred taper with both hands. I was more sob than I wanted to be today (but less of a juicy cough odd) so I skipped out on the gym. On a more normal note (I am normal, really), have you ever skipped xolair to go on a vacation? I am doing that next week and I kinda feel guilty (eg people would give their right arm for this med and here I am skipping out.....) Any comments? Guest guest
, see if you can get an injection before you go or as soon as you get back. Maybe something can be worked out. No harm in asking. Of course, my asthma got bad! GRRRRRRRRRRRR! I went to a local pharmacy who called my hometown pharmacy and got me a refill. That took away almost a full afternoon of my conference. My advice, BRING IT WITH YOU! Yea, I know we hate the stuff but sometimes we need it. sigh! Doug

Guest guest
This question may be a no-brainer, but is that " putty " the infection or the asthma? What causes it? Is there anything holistic that can reduce its development? I was dx with asthma last August. Carol wrote: that's pretty much what i do for the putty -- plus, mr mucus is a cutie! Guest guest
The " putty " is the mucous secretions normally secreted by the lung tissue. Now, that being said...it affects asthma because it blocks the bronchial tubes and doesn't let air pass and traps carbon dioxide behind it so it can't be expelled properly. Mucous builds at a higher rate for those unfortunate souls like us who have allergies that trigger excessive mucous production. Mucolytic drugs like mucinex have been used with lots and I mean lots of water to thin the secretions so you can cough them out. They get infected because infections love warm, dark, moist areas. The longer the shmutz (putty) stays there, the more likely you have a bronchial infection (bronchitis). So....we absolutely need to drink 1/2 our body weight in ounces of water each day with a squirt of lemon or lime. UNLESS we have another medical condition like congestive heart failure or kidney disease where your physician has told you you are alotted only so many ounces of liquid a day. If that is the case, those people need to avoid caffeine at all costs because caffeine is a diuretic and dehydrates the body causing more secretion problems and they need to only drink water. I feel like a preacher today, but please heed my advice. Ask your physician if you have any doubts about your heart or kidney problems or if in hte past they have mentioned something about watching your intake of fluids. By the way, those extra prednisone pounds respond fairly well to getting " flushed " out of the body when you take in an adequate amount of water daily. Guest guest
Actually it does make it taste better but the citrus juice is a natural diuretic so the prednisone weight gets filtered out of the body and tinkled out.
