Guest guest
Hi Martha, I know exactly how you feel. I have had RA for over ten years. I was a little overweight, due to other problems, but when I was on predisone I put on 40 lbs. I am finally off predisone and I am having a hard time losing the weight. I also have had a thyroid problem and had a partial thyroidectomy 18 months ago. I have heard what people have said behind my back, if she would just lose some weight she would not have any arthritis problems. They have said things about the extra weight being harder on my joints, as if I did not know this. People are much more sympathic to those who are thin and have arthritis. I developed diabetes and was told by one of my doctors that the reason I had diabetes was because I was fat. I have heard all the thoughtless and cruel things and understand your problem completely. When I first developed RA, I lost some of my friends because they could not understand my pain. They thought I was ignoring them and being unfriendly. They could not understand that I did not have the strength and stamina to visit or spend as much time with them. During this period in my life, is when I really found out what or whom were most important in my life. It helped me set my priorities and find out who my real friends were. I have been on Minocycline for one year now and I am off of all the drugs I was on for years. I can walk and feel 100% better, but I know that I have a long way to go yet. I am seeing a new doctor next week about my treatments. Email me anytime, Theresa B. etmj@...
