Hi everyone- Night terrors eh? I am going through the first stages of life change and with a hormone imbalance, I get sweats something fierce. I will tell you what has worked for me having RA, and Fibro. A heating pad to relax my joints. I snuggle into bed with that and then take my night time pain meds which consist of 2 mg prednisone, 200 mg plaquenil, 600 mg ibuprofen, 100 mg of darvocet. (they come in 650 mg tabs). Then I take a tiny bit of Soma which is a muscle relaxant for Fibro, 25 mg trazadone and 30 mg oxazepam (2mg ativan) It takes hold very quickly. Soma and Ativan work for me always. There is nothing like unconsciousness,,,,,yummy. I also have a fan running and a sound machine, which also is extremely soothing. It creates white noise. Sometimes a hot shower before bed can be helpful too. Getting one of those water fountain machines works too, with the sound of running water. I find I have dreams, but only rarely are they bad. Night Terrors run deep into the psyche and you may have a chemical imbalance that is exacerbated by your meds. Aromatherapy works too. My last great piece of advice here.......buy a 2" foam egg crate and put it on your mattress, then mattress cover and sheets. It will cushion your joints amazingly. I have foam forms I use between my knees to keep my spine aligned, and my hips comfortable, as well as one between my ankles. I also build up my pillow with foam. I have a custom built bed, cushioned to the nines, but when you are in pain especially from Fibro or RA in hips or shoulders, its indispensible. Make your bed a retreat and a paradise. It helps so much. Have a better day everyone. Email me if you want to chat or pick my brain. A day without too much pain for everyone today. Hugs, Deborah

I would imagine with that many drugs you would be unconscious! My doctor would have a fit if I took that many drugs at one time. Of course, he doesn't have to try to sleep in severe pain like you and I do! Sweet dreams ...

Something that helped me was a Sleep Number bed and Memory foam on top. I sleep really well...also a hot bath or a visit to the hot tub will relax you. I've never had any of the kind of dreams you all are reporting...but have had reactions from medication that has kept me up or general tossing and turning. I'd be dead if I took that many drugs! Beneydryl, Tylenol PM or cold medication usually knocks me out well. If that doesn't I have vicodin, darvocet or demoral that will do it.
