Where are you finding " Options " ?  Are you in Yahoo group post? Sandy

I've been playing around with this, trying to figure out how to actually delete replies...

When replying to the group from digest, as I suppose many of us are, there is no way to trim the reply, so it's really frustrating to be asked to do something we can't do!  When I hit " reply to group " at the bottom of the thread, I only see a blank email...nothing to delete.  (Yet I understand the annoyance, as I dislike scrolling past all those replies, too.)

Now, I just tested the " reply via web post " option at the bottom of the thread, and a new window appeared with the message to which I was responding.  Looks like the " reply via web post " option allows you to delete part or all of the previous message.

Also, I would like to test something else.  I am sending this message via " reply to

group. "   I checked under Options for Mail (upper left of screen), and I see that I have the " quote original message " unchecked.  If this message of mine contains the post from Tailyn, we'll know that this " quote original message " option does not apply to digest replies, and we should reply by hitting " reply by web post. "   If it doesn't contain the original message, then that is how we solve this problem!

In summary, two possible solutions:1) use " reply via web post " instead of " reply to group " 2) Uncheck " quote original message " in OptionsI will send a test email using the " reply via web post " as well.

Thanks,Sara

This post does not contain one from Tai so that may work for some. For others not having any idea what you are replying to is even more frustrating than having a whole group of messages attached. Please make sure you quote the previous message unless your reply can stand alone without needing reference to what you're talking about. :)

Here's what I do and I think it's working, let me know if it's not ... I get the individual emails, I enjoy that more than the digest. Then, after I reply but before I send it, if I remember to do it (I don't always), I delete the portion under that to which I am directly replying. I highlight all that which I am not directly replying to, and then strike the delete button which erases that portion from the reply. Does this help? It's not hard, it just takes a little longer. That works perfectly for people on individual mails who are using a computer to read/write. Those using smartphones, itouch, or tablets will still find it very difficult if not nearly impossible. I have tried digest many times and yes, it is awful but we know that when we choose it, and we know we're going to have to put up with it. I dislike digest so much I choose not to use it except for lists I don't tend to respond to much. Since the lists are provided by yahoo for free they have no interest in doing any improvements. They really don't care if we like it or not. It's the same on every list.

I had no idea it was such a hard thing for people to delete

messages. I'm so sorry to inconvenience others. I'll stay on

" individual messages " rather than digest, then.

Again, sorry for the complexity! Blessings to all of you!

Hi, . I don't do the digest for the same reason ... once I realized how annoying it is to scroll through the posts, I get individual emails. You haven't inconvenienced me. :-) Tai

I am glad you clarified that this was for Yahoo and sent other for me. Thanks. Sandy

" This post does not contain one from Tai so that may work for some. " Yay.  I am glad to see that the replied-to post did not show.  As it did not, it appears that unchecking " Quote the text of the original message " under options in Mail will solve the problem.

" For others not having any idea what you are replying to is even more frustrating

than having a whole group of messages attached. " It's not that hard to quote an email as you had previously suggested, or to write a short sentence that says, " So and so, in reference to your point about blah blah blah... "

So everyone has different preferences on how they want to see stuff, and that's ok.  Sunny wants to see some context for replies (understandable, otherwise it might get confusing), and would like to see less replies attached, so we aren't looking at every single reply made to a thread. I am sure that most people on this board agree with one if not both of these points of view, and I think we can accommodate both :)

Folks, all you have to do (if you use Yahoo Mail) is click find Options at the upper left of the screen.  Select Mail Options, then make sure " Quote the text of the original message " beside Replying/Forwarding is not checked.  No need to

unsubscribe from digest if you, like me, find it more of a pain in the a** to receive 20 or more extra emails a day in than to have to scroll through a few extra paragraphs. Then when you reply, just please copy a few lines of what you are replying to, or type a sentence for context.

And of course, no one has to comply with the above.  This is just my attempt to respond to different expressed needs.Sandy, the above instructions apply to Yahoo Mail, and I see that you are on Gmail.  I'd be happy to work with you off this board.

Apologies for hijacking the board for an IT discussion.  Now back to IE and my efforts to get my insatiable hunger under control.  I hope this information was useful to some.

Sara, I have a question. How long have you been considering IE? Perhaps I missed it, but what has been your experience with IE, since you wrote you have an insatiable appetite? Tai

I use a Windows phone 7 most of the time, and I cannot delete the messages, but when I use my computer, I'm perfectly willing.
