Guest guest
Sounds like a really good book I will keep my eyes open for it!!!! Thanks for sharing about it!! Peace, Sherry I finally purchased a book today I've been wanting to get for a while - "Living Well with a Hidden Disability: Transcending Doubt and Shame and Reclaiming Your Life" by and Epstein. This book is WONDERFUL and I have not been able to put it down! is a psychotherapist who specializes in chronic pain and illness, and she has been living with a hidden disability herself for 7 years. The book, therefore, is written from first-hand, direct experience. This is the first book I have read that deals with exactly what I have been going through - and what so many, if not all, of you have been going through, as well! Chapters include 'The Stages of Grief'; 'Dealing with Difficult Emotions'; 'Love and Sex'; 'Parenting'; 'Interacting with Others: Friends, Family and Strangers'; 'Work and Finance'; 'Rebuilding Self-Esteem'; 'Managing Pain and Flare-Ups'; 'Navigating the Health Care System'; and even a chapter on 'Advice for Loved Ones'. An excerpt from the introduction by the author: "This book is the culmination of the lessons I've learned as I struggle to live well with a hidden disability.... The lessons: love yourself no matter how you look or feel. Believe in yourself even if people question your symptoms. Trust that you have the inner strength and perseverance to survive whatever life hands you.... You wouldn't have chosen to live with chronic pain, illness or a psychiatric disability. However, with patience, faith and fortitude, you can find your way through the dark woods. Your disabilities may or may not be healed physically, but you can become stronger, wiser and deeper. And maybe that is what defines true healing."I definitely feel this book is a "MUST READ" for all of us!! I bought mine at my local Borders, but it is also available at Books-A-Million, & Noble and Amazon.com.Wishing you greater happiness and healing in 2001,Kim T.
