R hip-surgery time 3.75 hours. Dysplastic hip-socket was moved to a more

normal place in my pelvis, thus the extra time. Incision probably 8-9

inches--I have a lot of padding to get through. I stopped counting the

staples at 36-couldn't twist any further to count the rest--I suspect about

50 or so.

L hip-surgery time 4.25 hours. Also dysplastic hip, socket moved, tendon

releases performed. Incision a mirror image of the other.

This has been discussed before, and I don't recall exactly, but you need to

know what is counted as surgery time. Mine was actually time in the

OR. Other surgeons count from skin opening to closing which comes up a

shorter time...

Hi,

I'll let you know in a little over three weeks. I'm probably looking at

receiving a stemmed hemi, which I've held in my hand. It is about the size

of a half of a tennis ball mounted on a long barreled .38 pistol. My OS says

he can do it through an incision about 3-4 " long. Like I say we'll see.

ly, I'd like to see it. I'd also like to have a cassette recording of

the unedited audio portion of the proocedure, but I hear it's frowned on.

I'd smuggle in a recorder, but I also hear that they drug you and strip

search you in order to prevent just such an occurance.

Is that of you speaking during the surgery? I hear some of the discussions

can get pretty funny. Of course I only spoke in all seriousness (or so I

recalled--I was told otherwise later;-).

major... think it was a bit shallow

There's another one for your files!

I hadn't done this before today, I just got the tape-measure out and

measured my scar. It is 10 inches long. I had subqutaneous stitches

and 5 staples. I told Dr. De Smet I didn't care if he had to splay

me open like a tuna...long as I got resurfaced!

De Smet does one hip in about 45 minutes. My incision is 9 inches

long. I had a few staples that were removed before I left Belgium

and dissolvable, subcutaneous stitches.

Surgery Time - approx 2.5 hours (total time in theatre) - I

understand this to be about 1-1.5 hours longer than Fordyce's usual

time as I was considered a " challenge " due to odd hip shape and past

history.

Incision Length - 12 inches - and very proud of it I am too!

No staples or external stiches - all subcutaneous and healing

beautifully at exactly 4 weeks tomorrow.

I had right hip surface replacement in June 2002, by Dr.

Gross. My operation took less than 90 minutes. The scar is under 6 "

in length and fading fast (he did a good job). I had NO staples, as

Dr. Gross used absorbable sutures!

I am very, very, very happy with my decision. Every day is

enjoyable, and I am doing more and more. There is at least once a

day, if not more, when every step I take is a celebration and I

think " wow, I can do ----- and it doesn't hurt "

I am short (5'4 " ) and sort of small (108 lbs.) and I think this had

something to do with the time it took for the operation. Dr. Gross

told my husband that I had very severe degradation on both the socket

and the head of the femur, but I was one of his easiest patients for

a resurf.

If I had waited much longer, I would NOT have been a candidate for a

resurf, I was going downhill quickly with lots and lots of cysts and

spurs.

Happy New Years to everyone! I wish you the best, regardless of

whether you are recovering from a resurf or contemplating a resurf!

Time-I sure don't remember, but my husband thinks 2 to 2.5 hours

Incision-6 inches (the women in my family do not have small thighs)

Staples- none- Hooray!!

But the most important thing of all is to have a good result for which I

am most thankful to Dr. Gross in Columbia, South Carolina.

Time - about 3 hours, don't know for sure, but Dr. Mont had some

dysplasia issues to deal with.

Length - 5 7/8 inches

Staples - 25

I think it all depends on the surgeons preference... You might ask

next time you talk to him.... also, even if you get staples they

should be faded quite well by the time you should expose your

incision to the sun. I had 50 some staples and you can barely see the

marks now at almost 6 months post op.
