You're welcome, . I am going to be more mindful of my eating as well and resist the urge to get on the scale. TaiTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2011 2:16 PMSubject: Re: eating too fast

This is very useful, Tai! I'm probably eating between 3-1, which explains my issues with portion control and eating too fast. Thanks for sharing!

That might happen after two bites, sadly to say. Now I'd like to hear from a veteran IE-er about this. I suppose I'd have to nibble -- eat very, very slowly in order to enjoy the experience. Because eating can and should be a pleasure. I usually like that relaxation to endure for a few minutes rather than a few seconds. Thoughts, anyone? I need help here. Tai

Thanks. I don't know why I never thought of a roll before.  And I will try the nuts separately.  Sandy

I'm sure it's different for everyone but for me, I definitely need to eat a whole wheat roll of some sort with my salad, to feel satisfied and for it to last a while. Lately I've been having a whole wheat raisin roll when I have salad, yum! Often I have a handful of nuts separate from the salad, too, for some reason I feel more satisfied by that than when the nuts are in the salad, no idea why but it's what I've noticed.

That definitely sounds like an idea -- some nuts. I've already usually had bread at breakfast, so i want to stay away from bread after that. But I'll think about a nice whole wheat roll.

There is no " right " answer for everyone. If that works for you Foggy, and feels good and intuitive, like you are listening to your body... you're the expert! For the rest of us, we each have to listen to our bodies and find what feels good.

I think for MOST people, eating once a day would not be the right solution. To the original poster, if you can't sleep because you are hungry.... EAT. This is an example of overthinking... remember, be intuitive. What would an intuitive eater do if she was hungry and couldn't sleep as a result... she would eat!

I have been struggling with this same issue in recent weeks in my pregnancy. It goes against my habits -- I don't like to eat right before bed. But if I don't, it takes me forever to fall asleep. Which is silly. So now I have a little snack before bed.

The important thing is not to feel like there is a SHOULD about how to eat. Trying not to eat at night even if you are hungry doesn't seem smart to me. You can try turning your meals around, to make them bigger in the morning... but listen to your body, too. For me, it happened without trying.

And for what it's worth, I don't think the evidence is compelling that eating more in the morning and less at night will cause weight loss. So if that's your reason for wanting to switch, I wouldn't bother.

Best,Abby

Tai

After a few months of experimenting, I'm going back to one meal a day.

I really like it.

I have my meal in early evening. During the day I'm really not hungry and enjoy herbal teas. I'm also very busy and feel very clear and simple not thinking about food. No " should I " buzz in my mind. Just focus on work, etc.

I've been writing my food and weight for a couple of years. I went back and tracked, one meal a day (large but healthy) brings scale results for me.

I don't think eating a huge meal in the a.m. is good for the sleepy digestive system. I also don't think grazing gives the system time to rest.

Fridays, I splurge with bread, wine, dessert. The other days I'm veggies, protein, fruit (in order of ratio).

I am also tracking my sleep and hot flashes, and find that if I finish before sunset, my night is MUCH better.

Abby, I really appreciate your idea of trying what we want to do. If that doesn't work, try something else. it's our own formula. Yes, I waited today to eat until I was hungry, it was a very nice feeling. If that piece of cake continues to call me, I'll soon have some of that, too. :-) Tai

Tai, its always a good idea to keep the message you're answering attached to your message but delete the rest of the message trail that still may have been included. That way everyone can follow the conversation and those who choose digest arent so affected. If the person you are answering doesnt check back in right away they may not know remember what the thread was and since the message goes to everyone it just flows easier to keep the one previous message with your response. Sunny, How do I do that?  Do I hit the reply at the top of the page and not the bottom?  How do I delete the other messages without deleting the one I am responding to? said " select all " then " delete " . I don't even see and place that says " select all " . Sorry I am new to this stuff. Thanks, Sandy

Sandy since i don't see your system i'd just have to say don't worry about it and just send your messages as you always have. It wont make that much difference. Digest mode is awful and people who choose it know that. Those who can easily snip the message trail should try and remember to do so and those who have trouble doing it shouldnt have to stress over it. Its just the nature of digest. Tai,

I agree with Sunny. When reading a one-liner that's obviously an answer to a question, it's helpful to be able to read the question on the same page.

Don't worry about doing anything "better". We're here to support each other! You're doing great. Take care.
