Guest guest
I had numbness and tingling as you describe and it was caused by nerve damage in my elbow. But my advice to you is to talk to your doctor about this, it's very important that you find out what's going on. Guest guest
I just got the results of my emg, I do have bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. I have a good neurologist & he also wants me to get a dopler study of my subclavian because he thinks I may also have thoracic outlet syndrome. Baker <carez4kidz@...> wrote: Yes, I have that problem for several years now. I put pillows under each arm, and it helps a lot. I was told that I do not have carpal tunnel, so it must have something to do with RA, as I never had the problem before.~ ----- Original Message ----- From: dev3355 Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Tuesday, May 10, 2005 8:20 PM Subject: numbness & tingling of arms & hands Does anyone have a problem with severe numbness & tingling of hand & arms at night? Guest guest
Yes, I've had this a long time, although not necessarily every night. I don't know why or what it's a result of.... RA? Carpal tunnel? Old age? LOL! I'm putting this question on my list for the rhuemy doc on Monday. Guest guest
Best to get it checked out ASAP. For my right hand I waited too long and ended up in the ER with severe pain and numbness. I had totally lost feeling in the arm and couldn't stop crying. When the 2nd hand starting with pain I did not wait for the numbing ...just went straight to my hand surgeon. I'm lucky to have one of the best hand surgeons in the area. He scraped out spurs, cleaned the tendons as they had arthritis on them and stretched out the tunnel instead of cutting it. He also shot my fingers with cortisone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maggie http://www.4HockeyFans.com http://www.4FloridaHockey.com MSN: Maggies1429 AOL: Maggies85 wrote: Yes, I've had this a long time, although not necessarily every night. Guest guest
Yes, I sked my ra dr about it quite a while ago, and he told me it's part of the ra, carpal tunnel, and does not recommend surgery, because the pain afterward he said is substantial and recommended I get braces and wear them to bed at night and during the day when really active doing things, so I did get them, and they are a big help. I highly recommend them to anyone with this problem. ~dev3355 <dev3355@...> wrote: Does anyone have a problem with severe numbness & tingling of hand & arms at night? Guest guest
My doc recommended using braces until my surgical appt came up. Both my hands had severe arthritis in them..they were full of synovial (sp) fluid, nodules, spurs and the carpal tunnel was bad. It was all affecting the nerves and causing nerve damage.I couldn't hold a phone or a pen or anything... A real mess! I had no pain after the surgery except for the incision.Ofcourse the drugs were good. :-) Never needed physical therapy like the doc thought I might. A couple days after the surgery you can start wiggling your fingers, then about a week later your hand can be used. The next day I was already on the computer LOL. I'd say recovery was about 3 weeks with all the wrappings coming off. Then you just take it slowly. It's really not that bad, much better than the pain and numbness. I guess I can only speak for myself, but I'm pain free in the hands. The only problem is the finger joints now and then will flare up. I shoot a lot of hockey photos and was able to get back to doing that again. Having it done made a world of difference for me. Maybe you should get another opinion? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maggie http://www.4HockeyFans.com http://www.4FloridaHockey.com MSN: Maggies1429 AOL: Maggies85 shelly smiegal wrote: Yes, I sked my ra dr about it quite a while ago, and he told me it's part of the ra, carpal tunnel, and does not recommend surgery, because the pain afterward he said is substantial and recommended I get braces and wear them to bed at night and during the day when really active doing things, so I did get them, and they are a big help. Guest guest
I'm seeing a hand surgeon on Monday, but I'm suffering horribly right now. When I go to sleep within an hour I wake up with the numbness, It takes about 45 min to an hour for the feeling to return & the pain is horrible while it's coming back. my fingers swell up & I can't use my hands at all. What meds did you use? I'm hoping the surgeon can inject my wrists & that that will work. Did you try injections??Maggie <meshouse@...> wrote: My doc recommended using braces until my surgical appt came up. Guest guest
Oh boy do I know that feeling! I hated when my hands and fingers went numb...it was a horrible feeling trying to wake them up...and it hurt badly! My hand surgeon prescribed vicodin to help me with the pain until surgery. Then after surgery he gave me demoral, then after the first week he gave me darvocet cuz I told him I wanted something not so strong. Ask him to give you something in the mean time. For my first hand I had to get MRI's and nerve tests. It hurt really bad just having to keep my hand still...I was crying during the MRI cuz you have to keep your hand still. I felt like a big baby..but that was the worst hand. My hand surgeon told me that he can try injecting my hands so I did not need surgery, but it would be a waste of time because it's not going to get better just delay the inevitable. But then I was already to the point of nerve damage from the things in my hand. My hand would lock up too...ugggh I'm glad that's over with! *shudders* Good luck to you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maggie http://www.4HockeyFans.com http://www.4FloridaHockey.com MSN: Maggies1429 AOL: Maggies85 Devorah Flynn wrote: I'm seeing a hand surgeon on Monday, but I'm suffering horribly right now. Guest guest
I do this all the time. It's carpal tunnel from the RA. I found that if I put a wrist splint on my hands at night, it really helps. Of if I'm having an extremely bad night where I get the numbness and burning and too much pain to mention, I sleep sitting up in a chair with my arm dangling over the side to keep the stuff at bay. ~chris
Guest guest
Have tried all that, I'm only getting about 2-3 hours sleep a night. I go to the hand surgeon Thurs. Hope he can inject them & make me better.<tinoka3@...> wrote: I do this all the time. It's carpal tunnel from the RA. I found that if I put a wrist splint on my hands at night, it really helps.
