The truth is, it could have been anything. First of all, an increase in calories will not necessarily translate into a gain that weigh in. Second of all, flex points are not THAT many more calories in a week...and no one says you have to eat them all. They are not WWers way of keeping anyone paying longer. They are simply another way to manage your points. All that REALLY happend with points is WWers added 2 points per day. Other than that those flex points are really just five points a day that you can use or bank, just like before. If you're earning lots of APs maybe you need to eat more. Maybe you need to eat less. Instead of getting angry, evaluate your week and plan some changes for the next and see the results. Don't stress over a single gain. I know, it's easy for me to say, but truly it's nothing. It's about self control and taking responsibility for what goes into your body. " Weight Watchers made me gain weight by giving me more flex points " sounds like something a 10 year old would say. Nobody is making anyone eat points. The thing to do is either keep going in the same direction you've been going by eating the same number of points, or play with it and realize IF YOU ADD POINTS YOU MAY VERY WELL GAIN. This is not WWer's " fault " it is just the way your body handles the caloric intake. If you want to eat all those points, by all means do it but then translate that into increased activity. I honestly believe you cannot be successful in any endeavor until you take full responsibility for your part in the success. I lost over 100 pounds using the tools that Weight Watchers provides. But *I* am the one who limited my food intake, exercised every day, and monitored myself weekly to ensure that if I made a mistake I learned from it and adjusted for the next week. Weight Watchers never " caused " me to gain or cause me to lose. It was nothing more than a tool. Just like other areas of my life, the tools helped me, but ultimately the success or lack thereof was my responsibility. I received a degree from Antioch University, but I am the one who worked for it. If I flunk a class, it's my fault for not availing myself to the resources available to me. When I got myself into debt it wasn't the credit card company's fault. As for how I'm doing flex points, I am eating at the same level (except this week). This week I've upped them because I'm walking the picket line six hours a day and have found myself literally starving...okay, not literally...but feeling REALLY hungry in the evenings after all that exercise. I also think they feel that most will lose weight even if they eat all their flex points every week otherwise why allow them?. I also think some folks are throwing in the towel way too quickly. Give it a chance to work folks before you declare it a failure. I started using the flex plan several months ago when it was first discussed on Dotties board. One of the reasons so many people (speaking from experience, here) re-gain after reaching goal is because the " freedom " of being on maintenance translates in their/our minds to " you can eat any- (and every-) thing " . If you consume all your flex points, you're still eating the same amount of points that you would have, had you consumed the top of your range, on 123. So it's NOT that big of a deal, really. It just sounds kind of overwhelming. Oh,,,and for a funny....my leader last night kept saying we get 36 flex points. Members would talk and say 35....and the leader kept saying 36. lol I remember seeing the original post on Dotti's before it got pulled....and I had printed it out, as well. So whatever happened to Linguini, the person who posted it? I know Dotti banned all discussion on it until it was official...but I felt bad for Linguini. Lyn RE: flex points & not a happy camper... So instead of 20 minute miles, Im doing 10 minute/12 minute miles. every day but Sunday. Im not throwing in the towell on the Flex plan, but I DO think my WW leader should have stressed the " you don't have to eat the Flex points if you don't want to " instead she made it out to sound like that was part of the plan, to eat them all, just not close to your next weigh in. She actually said " eat 10 per day, for the first 2 days after your weigh in, then spread the other 15 out through the week. Making it sound like we should incorporate them ALL in our week. It's just TOOOOO much flexability for me personally. and as for the tracker journal, heck, I've never been able to balance my checkbook anyway, so Im probably cheating myself!!! So instead of 20 minute miles, Im doing 10 minute/12 minute miles. every day but Sunday. Im not throwing in the towell on the Flex plan, but I DO think my WW leader should have stressed the " you don't have to eat the Flex points if you don't want to " instead she made it out to sound like that was part of the plan, to eat them all, just not close to your next weigh in. She actually said " eat 10 per day, for the first 2 days after your weigh in, then spread the other 15 out through the week. Making it sound like we should incorporate them ALL in our week. It's just TOOOOO much flexability for me personally. and as for the tracker journal, heck, I've never been able to balance my checkbook anyway, so Im probably cheating myself!!! It seems strange that she'd make it sound like you must eat them. I think you're right, she should have stressed to eat them or not eat them, but make it a personal decision. Perhaps she could have given a few scenarios when one might want to eat them, and when not. Try not to get too frustrated, Bev. If every day you are making positive strides towards health, you are doing an amazing job. That's one less day of poor health and one more step towards goal. In lot's of areas, people in the US have abdicated personal responsibility - whether its' the folks who are suing Mcs' for " making them fat " or the groups that feel they're " owed special treatment " for whatever reason, this has become an epidemic in this country. Didn't mean to get political here, but just wanted to say I agree - we have to take responsibility for own actions and not make excuses. However, I asked my WW leader about this, and she said that WW does research and believes most people should be able to lose weight even at the higher point level. I'm still skeptical and I'll continue what I've been doing as long as it works. I did finish my first week on flex points yesterday and I used exactly 21 flex points.
