Guest guest
Sherry, I had to put my dog down about 2 weeks ago. She was my daughters dog but I lived with them for many years and the dog brought us much joy. It has hit me harder than I thought it would. But I have been able to let myself feel the grief and not numb out with food. It felt good to be able to do that. The dog was 16 years old and had a lot of physical problems, but that didn't make it much easier. I have noticed for some time that I eat so fast that I don't give myself time to enjoy the food or notice when I am full. It is slowly changing. When I am in a stressful time I try to be kind to myself and not judgmental. It is what it is and it won't last forever. I just had several days of stress and got bent out of shape , mainly because I didn't let myself really feel what I was feeling. So I comforted myself with food. But I also knew I would come out of my funk in a few days, which I did, and wasn't judgmental but kind. Be kind to yourself. I hope you will be able to sit with your feelings rather than eat them away. It takes time. Sandy Really glad that I just joined your group. Boy am I having a hard time. Although I really like and " get " the idea of slowing down and eating intuitively, when I'm stressed/lonely I just binge. Sure, had I slowed down and eaten just 4 bites of mac and cheese, I probably would have been satisfied. However, it's so much more satisfying to scoop it all up and shove a pitchfork full of Amy's cheddar and shells into my mouth. This is a stressful time - culminating in me putting my cat of 20 years to sleep 2 weeks ago. Anyone else have these struggles? I really need to get back on the program. Thanks everyone! Guest guest
Sandy, I'm so sorry about your dog. I've never felt grief like this - have never had to put an animal down. She was with me for 20 years. It is definitely a void. Are you on Facebook? If so, why don't you come to 'Pet Loss Support Group'. The Humane Society of Winnepeg has a therapist who conducts support groups on Saturdays and also responds to posts on the FB site. > > > ** > > > > > > Really glad that I just joined your group. Guest guest
Thanks for the concern. I am not on facebook though and am doing ok about dog, Cookie was her name. The Vet sent a beautiful card about the " Rainbow Bridge " story and it has been a source of comfort for all of us. My 5 year old grandson lived with Cookie too and he cried and immediately said " Can we get another dog " . Just like a child. He and my daughter talk about Cookie every day and that is helping them deal with it. Well this isn't about IE, but it is in a way because IE is about life. And this really tied into emotional eating vs. feeling the feelings. I am sorry for you too. Its ok to feel your feelings. Sandy Sandy, I'm so sorry about your dog. Guest guest
I can relate to the sorrow and trauma of having to say good bye to a beloved pet. We have had to do this more times than I want to remember and know it will be in our future again (currently have 2 dogs). It just takes time and allowing grief to do its job. Much as it sounds cliche, the memories become dear, comforting and really never 'leave' you. The 'intuitive' part is that each of us allow ourselves to not fight the process be it grief or eating. ehugs, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > Thanks for the concern.
