hi Judy Ann,I'm glad you wrote.i'm wondering about the phrase you used " jump start an IE program. " this sounds worrisome to me... like a diet mentality... especially in conjunction with the fact that you want to lose 50 pounds.

diet mentality tends to lead to restriction and then rebellion... and more weight GAIN, in the long run if not the short run as well.i think IE works best if you can start slowly and gently. pick ONE thing that you want to work on, and start with that. maybe it will be eating when hungry, stopping when full, or eating consciously.

when you feel confident with that step, then you can pick another from the IE smorgasboard. i caution you against focusing on your weight loss goal. if you focus on that, it will be extremely hard to eat intuitively. with time, you may lose weight as a side effect of learning to eat intuitively. but let your body guide that... while you just work on getting the rest of you in order!

Abby, thanks for this post from me too.  I agree about the " jump start " and focus on weight loss.  It is hard to get out of that mind set after doing it for so long.  I like your suggestion of focusing on one aspect at a time.  And that weight loss may be a side effect/result of learning to eat intuitively. I have been stressed out becuase my health has come into question on what I think is related to too much fat in my diet.  It may not be that at all but that's where my ind went. And from there to a panic state about needing to get fat and sugar out of my " diet " .  So here I was again back in diet mentality.  Boy it sneaks in so easily.  I have to challenge it again.  Besides cutting out fat and sugar is not going to fix any problem and will only cause rebellion as you said.  I will go back to eating when I'm hungry and stopping when I am full until I am more confident in that step.  Thanks, Sandy
