Hi .........

I to am trying to conceive. My surgery was Nov 20 2001 and i've lost 91 lbs. I

did take the birth control shot in Oct to make sure i didn't get pg before

surgery and i didn't like the shot, it made me spot all the time. Then i went

on the pill and i would forget to take them so i asked my family practicioner if

i could just try and conceive and that was in March, she told me to stay on the

pill at least until May and then go off. Meaning it would take me 2 years to

conceive anyways. Well i went off them in April and now in the process.

Hopefully it won't take me another 2 year since i am 40 years old. The only

thing my family practicioner mentioned was that she'd want me to see the

dietician on a regular basis.

Good luck.......

Hi Everyone my name is Christy I am a 33 year old mother of one

daughter 21 mos and celebrated my one year anniversary yesterday for

the RNY bypass with a loss of 160lbs and the news that I am

expecting baby #2 in March 2003. I am curious as to vitamins,

special testing my OBGYN needs to do and any infomation I cna get,

last pregnancy I delivered with gestational diabetes, and preg

induced hypertension at 37 weeks and at 376lbs. So this has already

begun to be a different experience. Any advice would be wonderful I

am so excited that I have found this support group!

To answer your question, I do have dumping syndrome from sugar at varying

degrees. Sometimes I can eat foods where sugar is one of the first few

ingredients and I'm fine and other times I get totally ill within 5-10

minutes and I feel like I am dying - sweating, cramps, the works.

Regarding the glucose test- instead of drinking the solution that would

probably make me ill, I am having a fasting blood test in the morning, then

eating a normal meal, then going back 2 hours later for a follow up blood

test. My doctor is fine with this and this is also what was recommended in

that article that was published by Doctor Whitgrove's office in San Diego.

I have noticed that with pregnancy, many of the foods that I was sensitive to

in the first few months after my surgery, I am again highly sensitive to.

For example, if I was a little lactose intolerant after the surgery, the

pregnancy has made me totally lactose intollerant. The same with sugar or

carbs - which sometimes I find harder to digest. I have to say though, that

I have never eaten better in my life since my pregnancy, since I really see

that the small amount I actually can eat has to go a long way - to both

myself and the baby.

During my first trimester I lost 10 pounds not from morning sickness (which

luckily I didn't have) but from lack of appetite. Now I also think that as

the baby grows larger, it's crowding things inside of me and perhaps crowding

my stomach. My pouch seems smaller again. I felt great during my second

trimester but my OB told me that - gastrointestinally speaking - the third

trimester is a little unpredictable anyways with what your stomach can

tolerate so how much more so after GBS.

Welcome Stacey! That's funny about the glucose test! You can have them do

a blood draw an hour after you eat a regular meal....

Actually weight loss can be typical as well...especially if you still have

weight to lose. :o) I lost weight until about 4.5 months...then started to

gain. :o) Only started looking pregnant at about 5 months.

:o)

Re: new to group

,

Many people do not look pregnant at three months. When I was pregnant, some

people did not even notice until I was seven or eight months along. If you

are not losing weight, you should be okay. I seem to remember that most of

the weight gain occurs in the last trimester.

As someone else stated, weight loss through your pg isn't that

uncommon either. I just had my baby girl August 6. She was 7lbs 6oz,

19 1/2 inches long and absolutely perfect and healthy. Through my

pregnancy I lost 22 pounds, and since delivery I have lost another

20. I do have to tell you that I didn't look pregnant until about 7

months and even then I wasn't big at all. My dh and I too tried for

many years to get pg and I was looking forward to being and looking

pg. So you can imagine how upsetting it was for me to hear from some

people " you don't hardly look a day pregnant " . I understand where

you're coming from. Try to hang in there. And even if you don't look

real pregnant, you're not going to care once that beautiful, healthy

baby is in your arms.

Hi Kelli,

Welcome to the group, and congratulations on your pregnancy!

I just wanted to mention something we have been talking about here for the past

couple of days. You said you were taking Calcium Carbonate, and I have been

told that the carbonate doesnt absorb well with wls patients. The Calcium

Citrate is what works best with us. I have a printout somewhere that I can try

and find, explaining this. If I can find it, I will post it here. Good luck to

you!

Baby Boy!!!

Mom to a beautiful 8 yr old daughter (PRE WLS)

New to group

I am new to the group as of today. I am 10 months post RNY. I am down

88# starting wt of 310. I am 4 1/2 weeks preg. I have one adopted

beautiful 2 y/o daughter. My husband and I both had fertility issues.

Obviously they have both resolved. I stopped my birth control pills

thinking it would take a while to get preg. even if I could get preg.

considering my husband had problems too. Anyway, I am a little concerned

it is so soon after my surgery but I talked to my surgeon and he was

encouraging and reassuring and I will see the OB/GYN next week. I take

two OTC prenatals daily, calcium carbonate 3 times daily and iron tabs

twice daily. I am nervous and ready to be through the first trimester.

Any one else's experiences that would like to share with me I would love

to hear stories of preg after WLS.

Hi Ron,

Welcome to the CC Board. I don't have CC, but have a younger brother that

does. I hope your chemo treatment is successful. I live in suburban

Chicago--and wondered what hospital your doctor is from.

Someone mentioned a second opinion--that is really important. , our

founder, suggested strongly that one go to a NCI hospital. Also, here are a

number of sites that gave me when I was doing research for my brother.

Hi Ron and welcome to our group. I am caregiver to my 51 year old

husband Bert who was diagnosed stage III July 2003, right colon

resection, 4 out of 8 nodes positive. Bert started 5fu/leuc in

August and was on treatment through December 2003. In January, we

switched oncologist to Dr. Heinz f Lenz, a fabulous doctor at a

major cancer center (USC/Norris) who kept my husband on more chemo

and also added oxaliplatin to the cocktail...an added edge if you

will.

Side effects can vary from individual to individual. Some have a

few, some have many, some have them all, some have none. For Bert,

it's been a mixture but overall, quite doable. He has missed very

little work since this entire fiasco hit the fan, but diarrhea has

been somewhat of a problem, as has fatigue. But overall, it's been

pretty darn good.

I hope you will keep us up to date on what's going on and again,

welcome to our group.

Fondly,

Monika
