Guest guest
Tai, the food log I was keeping, but have stopped for now, was mainly to note my level of hunger and fullness, as well as the satisfaction level. I did not keep track of calories or fat grams or saturated fat, etc. like in a diet food log. It helped me stop and ask if I was hungry, and how hungry or full and satisfied. I think it works for some people and maybe not for others. Sandy Hi. Regarding food logs, I'd like to ask the group, or those who know, at what point does keeping a food log turn into a diet? Isn't keeping a food log closely bordering on dieting? Tai

Guest guest
Keeping a food log was too triggering for me to be of use. Yet there seems to be many who benefit greatly by such insight and feedback. The danger of becoming diety is when the information is used for judgement purposes (guilt, shoulding, restricting etc.) instead of just feedback to learn from. Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > Hi. Guest guest
BEST wishes for this brave and courageous step Adelle. Hope you keep us posted as you go. That helps encourage others as well as remind us about our own challenges too. Tight clothes are like stepping on a scale for me - too much 'shaming' involved. Hopefully you can find a comfortable outfit or two to wear while you 'get' IE working for you too. ehugs, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I am trying to be non-judgmental about my recent weight gain and overeating. I find it hard to do sometimes when I try something on in my closet and find that it is too tight. I will try the diary, that way I could focus on my feelings towards food and try to focus on the positive. > Thanks! > Adelle >

Guest guest
I can certainly understand that. We each need to do what works best for us. Guest guest
Excellent attitude Judy - that will serve you very well on your IE journey. Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I just went through this. I tried it, it didn't work for me, I stopped. If I see a potential to learn from some form of food/emotions/hunger scale or whatever log later on, I may try it again. That's not much help, but I suspect that what does not work for us at one point in time may still have some value at another time. Guest guest
So, according to IE principles, how is the word diet defined as? Yes, I don't think I can keep a log, it's too much trouble, and I have a mental log which I often go over at night (to my despair) as to how much and what I ate. Guest guest
Tai, I can't even remember what I ate 10 minutes ago! So bravo to you to remember at night. My log was focused on how the food looked and tasted, texture, etc and what my feelings were when I was eating(before, during, or after) because I am an emotional eater. I too don't keep a " diet " food log like calories, fat content, etc. I did that once and it worked good but just like any diet, I gained weight after stopping that practice. I think that is because I was relying on external cues and wasn't even in touch with internal ones. Well I am going swimming in a bit. Got to get ready. Guest guest
I prefer to keep a very very short food log to help me to stay aware of if I am trying to meet my emotional needs with food.....When I eat to fulfill an emotional need- it never truly meets my emotional need and I still avoid dealing with real life and I escape into the fantasy comfort land of compulsive eating. My food log takes about 3 seconds to fill out but I do it after every time I eat.....first I note whether I was physiologically hungry or not....the type of foods eaten....and if I was not hungry/ full/ stuffed when I was done. If I find myself eating for emotional reasons it helps me to be aware of it right away and helps me to try to figure out what is bothering me emotionally. It helps me to keep real time account of staying engaged in life and for me...not eating my way through my emotions and the difficult situations in life. Guest guest
Tai, I don't know 'chapter and verse' what IE says, but to me the difference between dieting and not dieting is that dieting is all about EXternal input while not dieting (IE) is about INternal input. Its still a head shaker to me that I would abdicate my trust regarding my own body over to EXternal 'authorities' who have NO CLUE about what's going on with and in MY body. Can there be no greater shame on dieting than to realize that I don;t trust myself?!? Yikes!! Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > So, according to IE principles, how is the word diet defined as?
