Guest guest
Thanks for sharing this input Jane! It will now be added to the Book List so that others can have that reference choice too. Such sharings are the power and strength of this group - thanks for enriching us all. Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I reviewed the reading list and realized I've read many of them. There is a glaring omission I'd hate for anyone to miss! I recently finished reading " Lily " Hills' book " The Body Love Manual: How to Love the Body You Have While You Create the Body You Want. " She espouses the IE method as the body-honoring way to attain and maintain our personal healthiest weight. The book is all about self-care, and learning to love ourselves enough to listen to our bodies. The truly amazing thing is that something clicked inside me while reading this and now when I look at my (morbidly obese and middle-aged) naked body in the mirror, I can HONESTLY say to myself, " I look lovely and feminine. No wonder my husband is attracted to me. " In the past, I could only focus on all the rolls and specific body parts to criticize and beat myself up over and felt " less than " most other women. Now I am finding myself WANTING to take better care of myself and live instead of punishing myself with too much food and sitting locked up within a sedentary body! There is a small amount of New Age philosophy, which I could have done without. But nothing like the amount Geneen Roth puts in all of hers or the massive amount of feminist rhetoric in " When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies. I highly recommend it. While I've gotten some out of most of the books on the list I've read, the only other one I'd highly recommend is " The Seven Secrets of Slim People, " which is very clear, simple to follow, and very much action-oriented as opposed to just lecture. >
Guest guest
PS - Did Geenen Roth ALSO write a book titled - When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies? The only one I know of with that title was written by Jane R. Hirschmann and Carol H. Munter who also wrote Overcoming Overeating. I suspect its only one book since there was quite a bit of 'feminist' tone to what the latter two authors wrote. But it wouldn't surprise me to hear that Ms. Roth could be in that camp too. Just want to get and keep the Book List as useful as possible. Thanks! Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I reviewed the reading list and realized I've read many of them. Guest guest
I guess I was confusing, but I was referring to Hirschmann and Munter's book " When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies " - which has a lot of feminist rhetoric - and then Geneen Roth's books in general, of which I've read several, and all have a lot of New Age philosophy. While perhaps women who lean towards feminism and/or New Age may be more open to " listening to our bodies' wisdom, " we ALL have bodies and can benefit from a non-diet IE approach, as evidenced by the " Thin Within " Christian approach. I figure, take what I need and leave the rest, so I read authors from all different persuasions. Jane
Guest guest
The IE concept is getting more and more recognition from authorities, so it seems, in the magazines, the newspapers, and health sites on the internet. I think I need Dr. Drew at this point, or someone to tell me, "It's all right ... you're doing all right." :-) TaiTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Wednesday, July 27, 2011 9:37 PMSubject: Re: Another Wonderful IE Book thanks for the recommendation -- how AWESOME that it did all that for you! or rather, that it helped you get to this wonderful place you are in!best, abby I reviewed the reading list and realized I've read many of them. Guest guest
Tai.. You are so right about " authorities " giving it more recognition. I am on email from Oprah and she has had the IE approach on her show in the past it seems. I missed it then but am reading about her recognition.
