Guest guest
Hello to all! I hope everyone had a nice holiday! I went to see my endo this past Monday, to begin the process for my first year follow-up body scan. I will be doing the low-iodine diet and then 2 thyrogen shots (1 Monday/1 Tuesday), the RAI on a Wednesday and the whole body scan on Friday of that same week. The endo said that we can't even begin any of this or set any specific dates until the thyrogen arrives at his office. This evening when I returned home from going to dinner with my parents, there was a message on my answering machine from Thyracom Pharmacy/Thyrogen Support Services and they needed me to call them back. Of course by the time I got home their office was closed. Would anyone have any ideas as to why I would be getting a phone call from them? I know that my thyrogen was ordered either on Monday late afternoon or Thursday morning. I was wondering if perhaps they may be questions about my insurance, questions from my insurance company, or if maybe they want to talk with me about what happens, etc.? Please if anyone would have any information about this or has had a similar kind of phone call, please let me know. Thank you so much! land Thyroid Ultrasound (June 01) 6 nodules found; 3 on right and 3 on left Uptake Scan (end June 01) nodules found to be solid FNB (October 01) suspicious for cancer TT (Dec 01) papillary cancer, spreading to lymph nodes neck and muscle RAI (Jan 02)
Guest guest
I had the thyrogen shots for the first time this summer, and my insurance made the pharmacy company send the stuff to my house...which I thought strange, but I put it right in the fridge and took it with me to the endo's. I think I had to pay $80, but I don't remember now. I didn't have any reaction to the thyrogen, oddly, I kept expecting something.. It did burn a bit getting the shot but nothing I couldn't take... Then they made me have another scan about 6 weeks later the old-fashioned way, going hypo 'cause they weren't sure the thyrogen scan was clean. Fortunately that was clean, but I sure had a heck of a summer! My endo still believes in the thyrogen way and promises me another shot at it (no pun intended). I'm back to feeling normal again and working hard to lose some of this weight that's been accumulating over the past couple of scans' worth of going hypo! Lost 20 pounds already - 15 more to go! Good Luck, Sandy pap thyca dx 9/99. TT 10/99, RAI 11/99, scans clean since then...

Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this group, but I just finished my first thyrogen course, for my first year body scan. Of course it found thyroid tissue, so I have to do another round of radio-iodine... and so will do the thyrogen again next week. About the thyrogen... it is very expensive. Know your insurance benefits. there are 4 pharmacies that distribute it. It will go directly to your endo's office. I felt like i had morning sickness (only the whole day) with the thyrogen for the Monday and Tuesday. I ate little snacks, and took tylenol for the headaches. This second time I only have to pay 20% which is about $300 for the thyrogen. But I think it's worth the money not to have to go off the meds for weeks. You get to keep taking the synthroid throughout the procedures. Wynne
Guest guest
I'm not sure what the question was, but it looks like people are sharing their experiences with thyrogen in general. I recieved my firt thyrogen shot on the 16th of Decmeber, second on the 17th. I had to order it from Genzyme and it cost me almost $300 with Blue Cross Blue Shield federal health insurance. 1% of paitents have been reported to throw up from it and I fell into that 1% group! Tuesday morning, I woke up vomiting and vomitted for 4 straight hours! My doctor gave me compazine for the nausea and I felt better after that, stopped throwing up, and tolerated the second injection quite well. I did miss about half the work week because I experienced flu-like symptoms for most of the week until Friday. The shot really didn't hurt all that much (I thought they were going to be terrible). Good luck! Guest guest
yes. The thyrogen lets me keep taking my regular dose of synthroid and still have the RAI work. It is much better, much better than going hypo again. wynne > > > > Do you mean that you are doing Thyrogen before a treatment dose rather than > going hypo? > bj

Guest guest
Hi all, Just sharing my thyrogen experience. It was ordered by my endo's office, I did not have to pay anything! I have United Healthcare. Shots were given by nuc med Dr., I did not have any side effects at all. Scan was clean! Lost a few pounds on the LID. Overall, I couldn't be happier with thyrogen and will do it again next year. Guest guest
I have BCBS insurance and ended paying $358 for the thyrogen injections. The pharmacy sent the medications directly to my doctors office. It is common for the Dr. office not to set up anything until they have the thyrogen in hand. I guess there have been some backorder problems in the past. The thyrogen has a one year shelf life. The confusing thing for me is I could never get an answer on how much the thyrogen was going to cost. I just got the bill last week but had the thyrogen in August!!!! My experience was nothing out of the ordinary.
