Guest guest
I'm hoping that it was just a bug or something she ate. Mom has had so much trouble with her GI system since that bleed in 2001. She has now been diagnosed with gastroparesis and is on meds to help with that. I was keeping a close eye on her with this episode, but she's OK now. I'm just glad that she was here (OK, glad, but still not rested, LOL) because my Dad is hopeless around her when she's sick. Guest guest
Well, Christy, money IS everything, right? Hah! With Frances, there was 3 " of water on the factory floor and Nalge was refusing to shut down. The sherrif came along and told the pres. that he could either shut down or go to jail; and they'd just keep working down the corporate ladder until they found someone with sense. Good thing, too; 12 hours later, the parking lot [and the lot of the shopping center down the road] was 6' deep; lots of people who didn't have higher ground to move their cars to, or didn't move them in time [lots of store owners / employees], have no car right now. Glad you made it through OK. Owens I'm checking in. This one was closer to us than the others and much more scary but we're ok. No electricity for a while but I'm back now. Would you believe Napa sent Ronnie on the road yesterday???? Schools were closed, 's day care center was closed but NOOOOOO Napa wants those parts delivered! Geesh! Guest guest
Rain, Funny you should mention eating ice cream when not hungry because that is a huge issue I'm dealing with! Ice cream is a great love of mine and I'm really struggling with eating it when hungry. I've always ate it as a late evening snack even though I'm not hungry. I'm just not at a point where I could eat it as a "meal" when I'm hungry! It just doesn't seem "healthy" but I know it isn't any better to eat it when I'm not hungry! ugh! This is definitly a process! lol! Barb Subject: Check inTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Monday, July 25, 2011, 1:43 PM I just wanted to check in. I had a somewhat difficult weekend. I don't know why all these social things are coming up. I had a social thing with friends last night. In a way, friends are much easier than family for me because there is not all the old stuff from childhood. I was hungry, and didn't over eat. The only thing that happened was that we decided to have ice cream afterwards, and I had ice cream, even though I wasn't hungry, because I wanted to be social. No big deal, except that it causes some anxiety about food - which is somewhat relieved when I check in here.
Guest guest
Rain.. Good for you. It sounds as if you did ok. And remember that IE doesn't say you can only eat when you are hungry, but it is ok for when you are social/emotional as long as you know you are doing it. At least that's the way I understand it. Recognizing it is half the battle. Guest guest
Hi Barb, If you read some of my old posts, you'll see that I was eating cake and ice cream for my meals when I was hungry. It really helps me to do that because it takes the charge out of them for me. When I first started, I ate berry pie and ice cream for two days straight, but only when I was hungry. I think it was the idea that it was no longer forbidden - that made my jump right in to the things I love. I don't know if tomorrow I will eat cake when I'm hungry or not... but I don't feel like it today. If I feel like it tomorrow, then I will. That's where I am. I am hoping that eventually I won't want it too often. As a side note, I have not gained weight - in fact I've lost some because, even though I have been eating those things, I have been stopping when full, so my over all food intake really dropped. I know that weightloss isn't the focus, but it sure is pleasant. I haven't lost any recently, but I haven't gained either. So... for what it's worth...Rain Subject: Check inTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Monday, July 25, 2011, 1:43 PM I just wanted to check in. I had a somewhat difficult weekend. Guest guest
Hi ,I do remember that I can eat for reasons other than being hungry, but when I choose to do that, it really does scare me. I am afraid that I will take that and run with it, and choose to do that all the time. Right now, during my regular days (no special events) when I want something and I'm not hungry, I ask myself if I am willing to wait, and the answer has been yes. I'm grateful for that. I just remember the misery of overeating and being out of control when in dieting mode - or between diets really. It scares me. I don't want to be there ever again. And at the same time, I do know that people eat for a lot of reasons, and being social is a really big reason. Rain I just wanted to check in. I had a somewhat difficult weekend. Guest guest
Ice Cream, I'm glad to report, WAS a huge vice for me. I went probably a year and a half of eating ice cream every single night when I first started IE. I quit trying to NOT have it. Eventually my mind made the connection that I could have ice cream whenever I wanted it. I did experiment having ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And I encourage you to give yourself permission to do so, despite the " unhealthy " thoughts in your head. Gillian, our moderator and IE coach broke down with me the good things that are in ice cream - Milk, (sometimes eggs), sometimes fruit, sometimes nuts etc. So Ice Cream is not all bad. Once I saw that it wasn't " bad " I was then able to eat it with freedom. By eating it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I realized it didn't make my body feel good and that I didn't like it as a meal. I also equated ice cream to memories of making ice cream sundaes with my Dad which equaled his love for me. Once I made that connection, I was able to draw the line as to when I emotionally wanted to eat ice cream - when I needed to feel loved. Now I can take care of my need for love in other loving ways to myself. I still eat ice cream, but there isn't this urgency to have it all the time. I can now sit in my freezer for months. It is still one of my favorite foods - something about the coolness and creaminess of it. I would not only look at the emotional connections ice cream has for you, but also the habit aspect. Ice cream was a habit for me. And I had to replace other healthy habits for the ice cream. You will get there.
