Welcome Annette! I too have had cea from a young age.

I'm sure most of us have had comments from people about our

faces too. This is one of my personal bugbears. What on earth

gives people the right to think they can comment on a persons

face?!?! You would'nt hear people going up to someone in a

wheelchair and saying " You're looking pretty paralysed today " ,

or going up to someone with cancer and saying " God, you look

like you're about to drop dead! " (sorry if i offend anyone!) So why

do they do it to us! The worst part of it is, it's not really

something we can hide. I wish people would think for a moment

before they made these comments. They don't realise the

damage they do to our self esteem.

*climbs down off soapbox*

Good luck with finding something to control your cea. the

group is a wonderful supportive group, and always full of

suggestions! :)

Annette I too live in Arizona and aren't the summers just the worst with the

dry heat and the sun here is stronger than anywhere I have ever lived. Even

in the cooler months here the sun is very strong. What helped me tremendously

is Dr. Sy's Zinco it has been a life saver you should give it a

try........Hope that helps Noreen

i agree! to a degree though.

i truly don't think that most people say things and intend to be hurtful.

just the other day a co-worker said to me while i was in the breakroom " gee

syd, you look red in the face " to which i replied (with a smile) " my face is

always red " .

i've worked with this guy for 9 months! he is a good friend (workwise) and

likes me, thinks i do a great job, etc... maybe something i wore made me

stand out more that day? who knows.

anyway.........just my little experience! it did make me feel crappy though.

i still think about it and wonder how many people are thinking it but not

saying anything.

bye!!! syd

I think it's just ignorance on behalf of the people who ask questions

about the redness of our faces. Most people have no idea what rosacea

is. If they realized how much our redness tormented us they wouldn't

ask such questions.

Usually, I say that I have a skin disease, and that tends to be enough to

stop (and embarass) the average person. I have noticed that I tend to get

the comments when I'm not wearing foundation, like a day off when I might

just run an arrand or two. So my choices are 1.) wear foundation daily or

2.) get the comments daily. Yes, it sucks, and how I react all depends on

my mood. Some days, I let it roll off me and other days, I feel like

everyone is staring.

The worst thing is, the second anyone says anything about my being

red, the redder I get in response....Sometimes trying to see the

humor in the whole predicament does help me.

And yesterday, I was able to " talk myself through " a somewhat

difficult situation with a salesperson and get a flush to dissipate;

a lot of my flushing has to do with a weird self-esteem/shame

problem, not even simply what I'd call " stress. " I would love to know

how to get past it on a permanent basis.

- Your note really made me crack up. Thanks.

I do not think people say things maliciously. Sometimes I tell people that

I have a skin disease called rosacea and explain what it is. It makes me

feel like I've unloaded a huge burden to tell others this rather than keep

it all inside. Fran
