Guest guest
Hi All, I'm sorry. I found the " books " link just after I posted. There are a lot of books on there. I'm wondering if some people would be willing to share which books have been most meaningful for you and why. Thanks, Evan
Guest guest
HI Evan I have just started reading 'Overcoming Overeating' by Jane Hirschmann and Carol Munter - it's GREAT! You can probably get it from the library?? It was written 23 years ago and just makes real sense - wish I'd read it 23 years ago instead of doing all those endless rounds of Weight Watchers!! YOu might like to try it. Also have you read 'The Rules of Normal Eating' by Koenig > > Hi All, > > I'm sorry. I found the " books " link just after I posted. There are a lot of books on there. Guest guest
Really, for me Diets Dont work (Dr. Bob Scwartz) and Overcoming Overeating are the most impressive so far. Geneen Roth is inspiring and entertaining, but I didn't get enough out of her books at the time I read them to succeed. Both of the books above referenced are practical, no nonsense in viewpoint, and I need that. Basically I want practical advice with as few " rules " as possible! > > Hi All, > > I'm sorry. Guest guest
Evan I connected most with Overcoming Overeating at first because I found it basic and easy to read /follow. I found Intuitive Eating is more detailed and 'meaty' and it have it as a reference. When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies (men too ;-) was a 'graduate' course for me after I got IE more solidly under my belt. I think you will find that most of the themes and ideas are pretty common in these books, its just that some 'connect' for you better than others. If you have the time and inclination, print out the Book List, go to a library and/or bookstore and read the first few pages of several books to find which one 'sings' to you. Love to hear your feedback as you go too. BEST to you , Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > Hi All, > > I'm sorry. I found the " books " link just after I posted. There are a lot of books on there. Please send the link for the free e-book if you find it. Thanks! Sunny Re: Best Books Fabulous feedback Bill! Please share what you find there if you will. Thanks! Guest guest
Bill, hi. I couldn't get to the newsletter part,(I would have liked to, but couldn't find it) but would like to say that the picture of the little boy inspired me that was displayed on the website. The caption reads: "Our Natural Birthright: A Dieting Life vs. A Naturally Thin One." That alone made me think about being a little girl again faced with a plate of food, or simply food. Food meant nothing to me when saw my mother take it out of the grocery bag and put it in the refrigerator. It meant absolutely nothing. It was simply that -- food. An apple, or a steak, etc. I can't remember everything, but I do remember that ice cream was a favorite of mine, however, I was a skinny kid. And imagining a little child toying around with a plate of food -- when he was not hungry or did not like the food presented, he simply did not want to eat. It was probably until his mother insisted he eat -- keep jamming the spoon to his mouth that he figured he MUST eat in order to continue. I remember the feedings that took place in my family with infants. The child's mouth was closed in the highchair, yet the adults would keep putting that spoon to his mouth until the ADULT, not the child, was satisfied. Amazing to think about this. It is nice to think about being a little child again, not hungry, yet faced with food. Generally speaking, infants or young children will not eat if they are not hungry. Guest guest
Tai, I do have a pdf copy of 'The Overfed Head' and wondered if I could just upload it to this group's Files. However, the pdf file is very large and I doubt that yahoo groups would allow enough room for it. Try the link below and see if it works. You will need adobe reader to open the file. http://www.thintuition.com/filebin/theoverfedhead_ebook.pdf I finished reading 'The Overfed Head' and thought it was pretty well-written. I still prefer Molly Groger's 'Eating Awareness Training' but maybe that's because Groger's book is the one that got me started on this journey. -Bill > > > > > > > > What are the best books to read on this subject. Guest guest
Bill, thanks for the e-book link. I've added that to the Book List here so that members will be able to see that option when they look at that list. I too found that a first book can often be a 'favorite' ;-) I'm so glad that there are many books to choose from! I'm wondering if/what you found in The Overfed Head that really impacted you as you read it? Do you think that Eating Awareness Training may have been more practical or directive? Your insights could help to spark another's light bulb moment too. Guest guest
Bill, Thank you so much for sharing the e-book of " The Overfed Head " with us! I devoured the entire thing last night and found it very encouraging and practical. It's odd how the author gives away the e-book, but charges $300 for his on-line support community and " course. " I think I'll send separate posts to outline the salient points for those who don't have time to read it, as I agree with you, this is a very helpful book. Thanks again for sharing. I had looked at the site, but hadn't located the free book and had given up because I am trying to be frugal. Jane > > > > > > > > > > What are the best books to read on this subject. Guest guest
Hi Jane, I don't think it strange that the author gives the e-book free but charges for the online support. After all, the plan is simply Intuitive Eating by another name. McKenna's " I Can Make You Thin " also says the same thing. (Although McKenna's book also includes some EFT and a hypnosis CD). It is very simple...in theory... It is very difficult... in practice... As someone struggling to put all of this in practice...having to override previous programming...I certainly value this forum that allows us to connect and learn from others going through the same thing. Without this support, it would be much harder.
