Elaine is not comfortable with the premade sausages & hot dogs.

Bacon is a little different and some legal brands have bee posted

today. It is very easy for commercial producers to slip in illegals

(when foods are being blended as in hot dogs or sausages) under

other names or just not report them on the labels. Please check out:

http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#homemade

It's a lot safer to either make your own or get a local butcher you

trust to make up a large batch for you. Depending on where you live

some may be able to help you track down a good butcher.

Hello everyone. I am Paige from Salt Lake City. I am very excited to become a

part of this group. I am very new to Intuitive Eating. I have been doing

research for a few weeks and have actually been practicing it for only about 4

days now. Like I said very new. I am in my 20's and am so incredibly tired of

dieting. I found this group by looking for support with intuitive eating. Thank

you for letting me be apart of it. I really look forward to looking around and

see if I can help or anyone can help me. I am looking forward to this process.

As I can tell so far it will be a process.

Thank you so much

Paige

Welcome!  Glad you found IE at such a young age.  I am 67 and am having to change 60 plus years of diet mentality. We all seem to get help from each other.  That's what is so graet about this site.  And if anything doesn't " fit " for you, you can just acknowledge that and discard it.  Keep posting about your own journey.  Sandy

Thank you all for the kind welcoming. I am also glad that I have started early

on this journey. My biggest challenge right now is being able to tell if I am

fully hungry. does anyone have any suggestions? I am still working on the guilt

but it has been going okay. I ate a cookie last night without guilt or

overeating and also a few fries. Yay!

Thanks for the support

Hi, Paige. As you continue listening to your body signals, you'll know what to do. It took me time and I'm still learning. I remember some time ago listening to a tape about IE, and the speaker mentioned that most fat people never experience hunger. I agreed. I was always eating and when I was first introduced to IE, I really did not know what hunger felt like. There's a nice feeling of feeling hunger so you really WANT to eat when you're ready to eat. You don't want to get too hungry though, so the way it was explained to me is that you can go a little beyond the first signals of feeling that you're hungry. For some that might be when your stomach starts growling. That is not necessarily working for me right now. I just decide when I'm ready to eat, and since I no longer desire the junk food (I won't call it fun food

right now), I am turning to what is actually decent food. That took me a while to get the concept. Why feed myself junk when there are so many delicious other foods to choose from? I am not telling myself I can never have the chips, candy, or whatever, but right now I am going to respect myself and eat solid FOOD. Even if that food means a sandwich (gasp) or pasta, etc. I will now usually cut the portion of my beloved pasta and include a nice, big salad (which I also enjoy) with that.. Yes, those days of sitting in front of a big bowl of pasta followed by cake and ice cream are over. Because I no longer want to do that. I would if I wanted to, but I don't want to do that. It took me a while to get here. Don't get discouraged. It takes time. Let us know of your progress. TaiTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Wednesday, June 15, 2011 10:49 AMSubject: Re: Intro

Welcome Sara! You'll learn a lot from this group. Like others said, just choose one thing and work on it. I still work hard at noticing my hunger signals as I'm just a grazer! I'm still trying to learn new habits!

Good evening,

My name is Sara and I am 32 years old. I have been a binge eater and chronic dieter for 20 years. I have read a few books by Geneen Roth and agree with the concept. I want to try this approach but don't know where to start...do I journal what I eat? Rate my hunger? Measure food? Etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Sara from OH

Hi Sara, I would start by reading "Intuitive Eating." It can give you more of a blueprint for how to start out than the Geneen Roth books. One thing to remember is that IE is obviously very individual, so what might be a good starting point for one person may not work for someone else. Read the books and see what stands out to you and try that. If that's not working for you, try something else. This is a trial-and-error approach, but so freeing and empowering. Post with any questions, stories, and insights as you continue your journey.
