Guest guest
Does anyone know what, if anything, happens if you quit taking arava " cold turkey " It was my understanding that you need to be " weaned " off of it, and due to financial difficulties, my hubby was unable to get a refill..... Guest guest
Carol, My wife and I are going to try to have another baby, and I'm on Arava 20 mg. My doctor is going to have me take something to get the Arava out of my system. The time period to wing off is about a month, he didn't recommend just stopping. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi everyone- I have just started Arava therapy of 10 mg a day and MTX 4 tablets a week, this is instead of taking 25mg of MTX a week.. This is so the remicade infusion I get helps me tolerate its allergic reaction. I would like to know more about it, so anyone that is taking it on a regular basis, please feel free to add your opinions. Thanks everyone- Deborah

Guest guest
Hi Deborah, The only thing I know about it is that it takes about 2 years to get out of your body unless you go through a cleansing treatment to have it all removed from your body. I think this is only an issue if you want to fall pregnant, as you need to get it all out of your body before you attempt to concieve. What reactions are you having from Remicade? I am on it too. Guest guest
That doesnt sound too good - you poor thing. Do you take an anti-histamine and a paracetamol before your infusion? That is what I take. Apart from feeling a little drowsy afterwards, I am generally ok. It will be interesting to see whether the Arava helps with these symptoms. Look after yourself. Guest guest
The Arave made me lose weight and feel some gastro intestinal symptoms. I took it with methotrexate and Immuran. They were really loading me up with dmards for a while. Guest guest
Hi Deborah, I've been on Arava (20 mg) for the past year, along with Kineret. The combination (along with an anti-inflammatory and pain meds) seems to be working the best for me - Enbrel and Remicade both quite working after awhile. The Arava can take a month or two to start working, so don't get discouraged if you don't see instant results. The main side effects for most people tend to be gastro-intestinal. However, all my other meds tend to cause constipation so it seems to even itself out most of the time. It can also be hard on the liver, so be sure to keep up with all of the lab tests your doctor recommends. I hope the combination works for you!
