, welcome. Glad you joined us.  I would suggest to start by reading Intuitive Eating by Tribole and Elyse Resch.  There are other books but this is a good place to start.  They also have a web site if you have access and I bought the audio CD set because I am not a great reader, slow and forgetful.  So I can play the CD set over and over. one thing you will learn here is that we mostly share our own experiences and not so much advice.  That's because IE is and individual journey and different for all of us.  So take what fits and disregard the rest for now. I think for me one of the biggest breakthroughs was and still is learning to know when I am hungry and when I am full.  If I can live by that alone it will help a lot: Eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full.  But there is so much more.  Keep posting and reading.  You will laern a lot here too.  Sandy

My name is . I am a 31 year old student/wife/sahm. I have been married to my husband for 13 years and we have 5 beautiful girls together. I have been struggling with my weight since my first pregnancy 12 years ago. I stumbled across this site while looking for weight loss support groups. I read the description of the group and loved the concept. I have to admit, I'm not sure exactly what intuitive eating is but I am very eager to learn more.

, I second this! There was also a book I read... Hmm, I forget the authors, but I think the title was Attuned Eating (?) They also have a book specifically written for therapists called "Beyond the Shadow of a Diet" which I read.

hi ,welcome to the group!i think the basic premise with Intuitive Eating is that we, as individuals, have decided that following diets or other EXTERNALLY dictated eating plans don't work for us, and therefore are working on learning to understand and be guided by our own INTERNAL cues of what, when, and how much to eat.

i agree that the Intuitive Eating book is a great place to start learning more.... but there are lots of great books out there! i must admit that IE wasn't the book that spoke to me most compellingly... that was probably Geneen Roth's book, Women, Food, and God... though when I was starting out, and very worried about weight gain, McKenna's book, I Can Make You Thin, was hugely reassuring to me.

i hope this helps! glad to have you with us.best,AbbyIE since 11/08

Welcome , glad to have you join us here. I'll only add that there is a Book

List in the Files area (left column on group site) that you might want to look

at, maybe print out and take to public library or bookstore so you can have a

look-see at what is available and perhaps suits you for am introduction to non

or un-dieting. Although I read Geenen Roth's books first, then the IE book this

site basically follows (mentioned by others who replied to you), I found that

Overcoming Overeating was the simplest one for me to begin with.

IE really has enhanced my life and its a wonderful freedom from dieting which

doesn't work really.

BEST to you, Katcha

I have three favorite books. Two of them

are by Antonello: “The Anti-Diet Book, How to Become Naturally Thin By Eating

More” and “Breaking Out Of Food Jail, How to Free Yourself from Diets and

Problem Eating, Once and for All”; the other is the Intuitive Eating book by

Tribole/Resch.
