Welcome, welcome, welcome! I'm sure that you're really going to enjoy this

list. My name is and I'm a stay at home Mom to 3 kids. 7,

5, and Katelyn 23 months. I didn't nurse my first, she was born early

and I was told that she just wouldn't be able to, ha! I nursed my 2nd for 10

months when he went on a nursing strike and we never recovered. I'm still

nursing my 23 month old, but we're in the process of weaning her now.

Congratulations on your new little one, be sure to keep us posted with all

the details :)

Welcome to the list Edda! Glad to have you here! Congratulations on your

pregnancy! You will have to give us details when the big day arrives!!

My name is B .. I live in Michigan USA with my husband and two

wonderful kids. is 4 years old and was breastfed until about 18

months and Madeline, age 10 months, is my current nursling. No plans for

weaning anytime soon! :) I think you will enjoy this list .. there is a lot

of support and it's a great place for companionship!

What is the trend on breastfeeding in Iceland? Do many women choose to

breastfeed? I also see you live in the capital city .. is it a large city?

I'd love to hear more about your country and culture!

Again WELCOME!

Hello everybody.

I've been here for few days and I thought it was high time that I'd

introduce myself.

I'm Edda a 30 year old woman from Reykjavik, Iceland. I'm married to Runar

who is 41 years old. We've got a daughter, Hjalmfridur Briet who is 2 years

old. And I'm expecting my second baby to be born any day now - my due date

was March 25th so I'm already a week past it. I'm planning on breastfeeding

for as long as possible. I breastfed my daughter until she was 11 months

old - then she decided to stop. Well, she got an ear infection and

apparently didn't like sucking and never wanted to take the breast again

after that. I'm hoping for the same success with my second baby. I had to

start working when my daughter was 6 months old - but we still kept going -

now I get to spend at least 14 months at home so I can be even more

dedicated to breastfeeding now than before.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Thanks for the welcome Liz.

Yes we call her Hjalmfridur Briet. We've never shortened it - but a lot of

our friends and relatives wanted to go with her second name at first but we

put a stop on it. You get used to it pretty soon. :-)

All the best,

Hi, nne,

Welcome and congratulations on 's birth.

Many first time moms experience pain at latch-on, myself included, and there

seems to be a correlation to pain and fair-skinned, fair-haired women. This

aside, if the pain causes you to not want to get latched on, it is

time to take acetaminophen and/or ibuprofen (Tylenol and Motrin,

respectively), for pain control.

I didn't experience flat nipples, but I believe the tissue may gradually

release through nursing and be less flat, and will get a better " hang "

on how to grasp your nipple effectively over time. It often takes weeks for

a nursing couple to get into the full swing of things.

I congratulate you on being comfortable to get out and nurse in public

already. This is a big milestone. To paraphrase my favorite book (The

Nursing Mother's Companion Guide) " The learning period is the first 2

months; the reward period follows immediately. "

Hope you enjoy our list,

Amy Lynn

Welcome nne and ,

Glad to read that he is doing better after a rough start. My DD,

Charlotte, was born 4 weeks early but fortunately didn't not need any

special treatment except for 5 days of " bililight " treatment for jaundice.

As for the pain in breastfeeding. I had that too and it does go away. If

for some reason the pain does not improve or even if it begins lasting

longer and longer, get it checked out to make sure you don't get

mastitist/breast infection. When Charlotte was about 3 weeks I got a

breast infection and on top of the horrible pain breastfeeding, I was sick

as a dog...temp 104F!

Good luck,

and Charlotte 8-29-99

welcome nne, This is a great list. My little baby will be 4 months old

Saturday, I have 4 childrem 3 boys, and my little girl. I too was sent home

using a nipple sheild, and my milk supply was damges due to the nipple

shield, and it took a lot of work to gt her to latch on to me after that. My

nipples were sore also, for quit a while. I aslo nursed my other boys some.

My oldest for 2 weeks, my next to oldest for 5 months, and my next to

youngest for 16 months.

welcome nne, This is a great list.
