Honest, for some reason I think somehow the body operates on a certain timetable and many of us are out of sync with body functions and needs. For instance, food goes to the stomach, takes a certain amount of time to go through the physical processes. So when does the stomach get hungry? When does it need food again? Yes, I would be interested in when a longtime practicer of IE knows or feels they're hungry. I'm getting better at it. When you say you long to eat dinner with your family routinely, what's happening now? I know that at the present moment, if I had to make dinner for my husband, I would not really be ready to eat and if I ate, I'd eat against my own interest. Like you say, it's a learning experience. Although it is not always possible for me to do this (not eat with others when I'm not hungry) because recently I was on vacation and simply impossible to exercise my own schedule. Agreed that sitting down with others when they are eating is a formidable, daunting and frightening task for me, something I have not had victory over, because when I do sit down,I convince myself to an extent that I am hungry (THAT is truly mind over matter) because the food may look good, the odors are wafting and my senses are heightened. That is something I will need to work on. But I've had so many successes, little ones, of late, that in time I believe that will be overcome as well. At least I hope so. :-) For the most part, my husband and I eat at different times now and it's not a problem.
