Guest guest
Dessi, We did have Jakob circumcised at birth. He was born just before 10:00 Monday evening, circumcised Tuesday morning and had his first casts (short leg ones unfortunately) put on around 7:00 Tuesday evening. We didn't have any problems with it at all. Dessi Pickett wrote: > Have any of you circumcised you baby boys at birth? Guest guest
I know what you are talking about, Dessi, in that what we so lovingly <g> called diaper crusties (from the plaster getting into the casts when they were newer--first few days). Just make sure to remove of the offending " crusties " checking in all of the " nooks and crannies " and he should be fine. If there seemed to be a multitude of them, I just sprinkled cornstarch powder on him and lightly brushed it away.. seeing as the area was always wet, the plaster would stick other wise! I don't know what your pediatrician recommends to protect the area while it heals (some are slightly different), but be liberal with the petroleum jelly (or whatever) and that should be just fine to do the trick to protect in this case. Also, I don't know if anyone else's boy had this problem, but occasionally Gavin would clamp his legs together and then howl in pain... it seems that he would sometimes accidentally smush himself there with those groin high casts. Yikes!! :-) and Gavin (bilateral 12-12-01) On Fri, 21 Jun 2002 14:06:06 EDT mrscandyt@... writes: > In a message dated 6/21/2002 12:31:51 PM Central Daylight Time, > dpickett@... writes: > > > > I am thinking about the necessity of keeping it clean - would the > > plaster complicate it, or would the cut add extra discomfort and > how much. > > Well, the casts (in our case) don't really touch that area. Guest guest
Ok, so I didn't account for plaster bits getting into the diaper We didn't have that problem since we asked for lots of extra cast padding at Jakob's thighs (first thigh high set rubbed a sore spot or 2 on his thigh). We would pull a little of this padding out to cover the edge of the casts, then put either medical tape or moleskin (which they also gave us at the appointments). this also helped to shield the rough edges from rubbing sores. catpuccinokitty@... wrote: > I know what you are talking about, Dessi, in that what we so lovingly > <g> > called diaper crusties (from the plaster getting into the casts when > they > were newer--first few days). Guest guest
And can you believe that we had this problem with below the knee casts?! Our first orthopedist began to get annoyed with me (and I am not normally a very picky person, but...it's my baby!) because I always asked him to smooth out the casts more and make sure he had enough padding up at the top due to this. :-) Was just one *more* thing I was amazed at with Dr. P, the amount of time he took to make sure the casts were just so. Guest guest
We did not have any problems with our sons, but his first casts were below the knee. We just tried to keep the plaster out of the diaper. I would imagine that this would be more difficult with the toe to groin casts, but could be overcome!
