Guest guest
Hello, everyone. I am new to IE and still struggling a great deal. I've been trying to practice the concepts this week, and have felt OK with most of my choices. When I made poor choices, it was freeing not to go into the negative thoughts. Today was particularly difficult and frightening. I seem to have no " off button " with some foods. When I started eating for reasons other than hunger, I just couldn't stop - for hours. I've been reading all of the posts for several days. I am learning a great deal. I wonder if I've been truly hungry in a very long time. I'm not sure I know what it really feels like. I also feel VERY out of touch with fullness. I practiced a structured, weighed and measured plan for many years, and I'm afraid I've lost touch. Thanks to all of the experienced Intuitive Eaters for your advice and support.
Guest guest
Welcome ! Sounds like you are giving IE a really good go. What might make it better for you is to take a deep breath and realize that you don't need to do everything all at once and certainly not 'perfect' either. Being gentle with yourself is one of the suggestions and a good one to start with. If you can select just one aspect of IE to do at a time, you may find that it seeps into your life much easier than if you try sooooo hard ;-) Meanwhile do join in with comments, questions, whines are OK too and of course crowing about any and all baby steps you do along your IE journey. Those inspire us all. BEST to you, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > Hello, everyone. I am new to IE and still struggling a great deal. Guest guest
Hi, . One of the biggies for me was feeling hunger. For years I never really felt hunger. Now I know what it feels like to be hungry, and for the most part it is a rather pleasant sensation. The problem I'm having now in particular, is that I'm on vacation with my husband who (1) eats WAY differently than I do, and (2) we have different eating times, so I'm faced with food when I don't really feel hunger right now. But I must say that learning to be hungry is a great start and actually a wonderful way to recognize if you're "ready" to eat. Welcome to the board. Oh, and I am struggling, too. But I know, just know, that I cannot diet. TaiTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Friday, July 29, 2011 12:18 AMSubject: First Hello. New to IE. Hello, everyone. Guest guest
, it takes time and you are off to a good start. Just recognizing and acknowledging that you see that you haven't been able to identify " hunger " and " fullness " is a BIG step. It was also a big step to stay out of the negative thoughts. Sending encouraging thoughts. Sandy Hello, everyone. I am new to IE and still struggling a great deal. I've been trying to practice the concepts this week, and have felt OK with most of my choices. Guest guest
I agree with Sandy, recognition is indeed progress! Now maybe just keep a thoughtful " eye " on things, and maybe ask yourself on a regular basis, " Am I hungry? Am I full? " it DOES get easier with time and practice. I think using the hunger scale was a useful exercise for me. Just guessing, and saying, " Hmm, I think I'm a 4 out of 10 right now (just a little bit hungry) " was helpful to me. My signals became clearer with time, for sure. Glad to have you with us, !AbbyIE since 11/
