Guest guest
I think this is a very interesting article but I was confused by one sentence. "While this would be an effective means to receive folate, most people do not consume the necessary 400 g through diet alone." Over what time period do people consume 400 g of folate? I take Methotrexate weekly and 1 mg Folic Acid daily. It would take almost three years to get up to 1 g. Something is wrong and it does make me wonder about the rest of the article. I have heard that Folic Acid reduces the effectiveness of Methotrexate a little and the dose of Methotrexate takes this into account to get the desired effect. Lots of people say that Folic Acid greatly reduces the adverse side effects of Methotrexate. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: annette2ca Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Friday, April 15, 2005 5:16 PM Subject: Methotrexate & Folic Acid Here is an article I saw today. It is on a site that needs a password so I don't think I can post the link. It is interesting to people on methotrexate I would say.Annette
Guest guest
Here's the answer Harold. There is a little symbol in the original article in between 400 and the G for grams. It did not come through when I cut and pasted. I am taking 1 mg a day also with my Mtx and find that it helps. The article is from The Joint and Bone newsletter. Guest guest
Hi JP: I also inject. MTX, and 12 hrs. later I take 2 Leucovorin pills to help with the nausea. Why do you take folic acid? I got diagnosed with R.A. 6 years ago, and had never heard of it. It is progressing rapidly, so I decided to see if there was any support groups on line. So, here I am!!! Thanks for your e-mail. BC [ ] Methotrexate & Folic Acid My Rheumatologist told me to take my 5 mg of folic acid the day after my MTX injection. She said that the MTX will deplete the folic acid, so it is better to replace it the next day.... JP
