Gotta get this off my chest--there's a reason they are called triggers

Since I have found this site I have experienced the first real understanding of

what I grew up with outside my own family. The only other who can identify with

my stories is my sister. So believe me when I say finding this forum has been a

life changer.

For the most part, this is a safe haven for all of us. But I have run into a few

posts that are troubling. This seems to happen when one of us shares information

we have obtained through reading about BPD or from therapy. If someone reads the

post and then finds themselves upset by the contents, they should use that

information to try to better understand themselves, and not shoot the messenger.

This is either a safe place to speak out about our experiences recovering from

BPD, or it isn't.

As I said, for the most part everyone here has been most welcoming and open to

sharing and support. The only times I have seen responses that I found combative

are the ones where someone gets all twisted up because they read a post that

makes them uncomfortable.

If we start sanitizing posts so others won't get uncomfortable, we are back to

not having a safe place to speak. Have some posts left me uncomfortable? Of

course. But I am a firm believer in owning my own sh*t--if something I read here

troubles me than I need to examine it more closely for how it applies to my

situation.

So please everyone, embrace your own crap when triggered and practice 'Take what

you want and leave the rest.'
